USB Keyboard and Mouse problem with XPSP2

Decided to be a little dumb and install XP's SP2, and either it or my Logitech MX duo decide to kill off my interface devices during boot. The base station would go dead (IE stops drawing any power at all, can tell because mouse stops charging when XP starts booting) whenever I plugged it into the USB ports. Turning the machine OFF will result in the normal draw from the plug and charge of mouse.

I can use it with the PS2 adapters, but that's a pain. Neither Logitech or Microsoft have anything really helpful. I'm sure there's probably just something really stupid I'm missing.

Oh yea.....running on a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP Ultra, so it's an AMD on a VIA chipset, which rules out Microsoft's admitted problem with Intel USB buses not wanting to give voltage.

Is there something REALLY stupid I'm forgetting...or are other people encountering the same problem?

I've heard that sp2 kills usb ports.

Eck.....found a makeshift sollution. I forced USB 1.1 via the BIOS and all of a sudden everything works. I'm gonna guess that there's issues with the USB 2.0 drivers with SP2.

Had new hard drive installed. Got home & USB keyboard did not work. Tried another keyboard. It didn't work either, but both keyboards worked on another computer. Went back to computer shop and keyboard worked fine there! Got back home & remembered shop was using PS2 mouse. I use a USB mouse. I tried a PS2 mouse and keyboard started working. The only thing I could think of was that something the tech did while installing new hard drive messed up USB & PS2 port functions. After finding this forum, I called & asked about SP2 update, and it was installed on new hard drive. After reading these messages, I have decided it was definitely the SP2 update that caused the problem. As long as I have a device plugged into the PS2 port, my USB port works. Unplug the PS2 device and the USB port quits. Hope Microsoft figures this one out soon!
