USB keychain storage craze?

Hi everyone have a quick question for yall.

Well my boss asked me to research these usb keychain storage devices. So my question is are these things for real? Are they reliable, could you see these devices replacing more standard backup types like ZIP and small travan tape drives? He has alotted me $200.00 to purchase one of these devices and I am curious what one is good, seems like everyone and there brothers is making them now. Heck I think I saw McDonalds packaging them in there happy meals the other day!

NO, they are not backup media. why would you even consider it??

they are for transporting files. to replace floppies for transport purposes not backup.

I agree, they aren't mean as a long-term backup medium. Flash media isn't particularly good for that kind of job. Magnetic media, though more susceptible to deterioration, is still a better choice for that kind of job.

i got a 128mb one. I love it mainly cuz i dont have internet at home so that means i can download patches/programs/music etc of a t3 connection and take it home. Plus it fits in my wallet and is more durable than a regular floppy. For $200 you can get a huge one. I got mine for 50 a while back. Someone posted a deal somewhere that has 64mb for $9 after rebate. Thats pretty cheap so id check it out. Even if it sucks its only $9.

But if you dont need to move large amounts of data, then i dont see much use for it since floppys are cheap. Although the size is more convienent if you need to move stuff around a lot and the computers have front usb ports. And some computers dont even have floppy drives anymore too. So yeah, thats my 7 cents.

I use a similar device, the USB 2.0 ZiO! from Microtech. It's quite handy, doesn't require drivers.
