USB Mouse keeps going out

I have a laptop and use a USB mouse most of the time with it. Lately it just...stops responding. The trackpad still works, just not the mouse. Unplugging and plugging the mouse back in solves the problem. Any idea what is causing it? Been running smoothly for the last couple weeks since I got the laptop.

Not enough voltage in the laptop's USB -port on a sustained basis to hold the mouse. Are there any other USB devices connected?

I do my laptop with a USB mouse and other things through a powered 4 port hub, and I turn the touchpad OFF.

No probs that way. Laptop USB ports are often wimpy.

It's weird, since I've had this laptop for 2 weeks with no troubles, then all of a sudden today it started acting up. I have a wireless keyboard on the port above it and it still works great. It's just an intermittent thing, it's happened maybe 4 or 5 times so far.

I swapped ports and it still happens with just the mouse...I'm beginning to suspect it's Logitech's *wonderful* SetPoint software having issues /sarcasm

I don't even bother with SetPoint anymore, or any of Logitech's software. They seem to have the wonderful hardware, crappy software bug that ATI has too (specifically their MMC).

Personally, I don't have such a high opinion of Logitech hardware. I had similar problems with a Cordless Click optical mouse, which caused me to buy a MX610, with the hope of improvement. However, the mouse is totally unusable on x64, with or without Setpoint. The attitude and lack of support from Logitech has caused me to decide that any future purchases will not be Logitech. The only good part is that the receiver for the MX610, in combination with the receiver for the Cordless Click, has caused my old optical mouse to work perfectly.

Well my problem is that I use a VX Revolution when I'm away from home, and an MX510 when I'm at home with my desktop monitor. The VX Revolution has extra features and I have all of the buttons on both mice programmed with custom keystrokes. Arg! Yeah MDE, it is an ATI approach - great hardware, stinky software. Bah!

same thing happens to me on my desktop...it is usually resolved by unplugging the mous and plugging it back in...it think it has to do with the ammount of power your usb ports are getting
