Where should I start?
I had xp running on my old setup: kt7a with original bios, Duron 700, voodoo3 3000, audigy sound card, and linksys network card. My Logitech mouseman dual optical worked then.
Earlier this week I ordered my new GF4 Ti4200 video card and processor (T-Bird 1.4). I flashed the bios to the newest version, 7N, and all went fine. When my stuff arrived, I took everything completely apart, cleaned it all, put the parts together, and booted it (yay). After setting all my bios options and partitioning, there was a little hiccup trying to run xp, where it crashed at a certain point, so i installed it with the v3 instead of the GF4. I think it was some setting i had wrong in the bios...cas 2 maybe? It went fine, though, I had no mouse during the setup process...Replaced the v3 with the GF4 and installed it's drivers, and everything seemed to work...Not the mouse though, I had used a ps/2 convertor to get it working...Installed the latest mouseware, no go. I searched and came up with bios settings to try, none of them worked. Tried installing the VIA 4 in 1 drivers, and the USB filter driver, but to no avail. I also tried removing my PCI devices from slots 4 and 6 to make sure there were no conflicts...Still nothing...
Now, if I plug in my USB webcam (logitech USB quickcam express), Windows sees it, and installs the appropriate drivers, and away it goes. Works fine. I try the same thing with my mouse, it finds it, and tries to install the drivers and then notifies me that there was an error installing the hardware.
I also notice that the red light in the mouse is on when it's plugged into the ps/2 port, (it's optical) but not on at all at any point when it's plugged into the usb port...
Any ideas?
