USB mouse working intermitently

This morning the USB mouse with my laptop suddenly was dead in the water while I was doing some stuff with:

1. Another USB device, a 4GB flash drive
2. An SD card in the laptop's built-in card reader

I tried the other USB ports on the laptop, and got recognition on one of them, but the one on the right side (I'm right handed) wouldn't respond with the mouse attached.

A reboot did not help. Finally the mouse did start working on the right USB port. But coming back to the machine (it had been in suspend) this afternoon, the mouse will work and then not work, and then work, WTH! The laptop was bought about 355 days ago, have to look up the exact date, so maybe it's in warranty, however, don't know if I should go that route. Bought it at Best Buy. It came with the mouse. What do you think?

Edit: I get those burps from Windows Sounds that seem to indicate the device coming in and out of recognition. The mouse cursor freezes, then unfreezes periodically, even for a second or two. It's weird! I suppose it could be a discontinuity in the wire. Could be something else, though. Guess I'll have to swap the mouse with the Logitech cordless (with USB receiver) that I have on my other laptop and see what's going on then.

Well.. have you swap the mouse? i guess is that the mouse is damaged, and the optical sensor not working right.

There appears to be something wrong with the mouse. I tried it on my other laptop and there are serious serious issues there too. It doesn't seem to be a discontinuity exactly, although I think the problem could be due to a momentary discontinuity. The thing is, once the mouse stops working it won't work, at least not on the other laptop. I found it would come back spontaneously on the first laptop but on the second it will not, and I unplug it, plug it back in and it's working. What causes the dropped connection? Maybe a discontinuity, maybe a faulty sensor.
