Hello Everyone,
I am running into a couple of problems and I was hoping someone may be able to help me solve them. At this time I am unsure if these two issues are related.
Okay, I am currently using Windows XP Pro SP3 and my motherboard is an Intel DH67cf. I am trying to setup another hard drive with this OS (meaning I already have a different hard drive setup and I am NOT experiencing any of these problems on that drive, which should establish that it is not a hardware problem)
ISSUE #1 - USB 2.0
When I turn on my computer and I try to insert a USB flash drive it takes about 45 seconds to a minute and a half for Windows XP to recognize it.
Now if I start up Windows XP and wait a while before inserting the USB flash drive it will detect the device quickly.
This would make me believe that Windows XP / drivers are taking a while to load at startup.
On my other hard drive, the USB flash drive loads up right away even at startup.
The only USB devices I have plugged in are a keyboard and a mouse.
Now another thing I have noticed is that when a new USB device is inserted, the USB controller is not recognizing the device completely, it detects that something is new, but it just sits in the device manager with a yellow exclamation point waiting for me to tell it what to do. What I then have to do is direct new devices to the C;\windows\system32 folder where then the device gets recognized and it works.
To me it sounds like a driver issue. From what I understand I believe that the USB 2.0 drivers are installed from the Windows XP Service Pack 3. Is it possible that the drivers have been corrupted or does anyone know of what else may be causing this? Do the chipset drivers have anything to do with the USB 2.0 controllers?
ISSUE #2 - Slow Shutdown
On the other hard drive I have setup, when I go to shutdown Windows XP, it shuts down very quickly, 5-10 seconds. On this new drive I am setting up it takes ironically about 45 seconds to a minute and a half (just like the USB recognition)
Does anyone know what would cause this, and or if it has something to do with the USB issue I am having above?
Thank you everyone for your help
