I heard that KVM switches use keyboard/mouse emulation for using the keyboard/mouse connected to it. I'm not sure if USB switches use emulation for using keyboard/mouse functions however. Do USB switches emulate keyboard/mouse for using keyboard/mouse connected to them or is it done directly? Would a KVM switch have more input lag than a USB switch? I right now have a 4-port HDMI switch but I'm not sure if it's better to buy a KVM switch and use the HDMI/USB signals from one box or keep using my HDMI switch and buy a USB switch and take up more desk space and one more power outlet. I'm using a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse via the unifying receiver and my keyboard does not have multidevice functionality but my mouse does. Sure I could buy a keyboard with multidevice functionality but that will limit me only to certain Logitech keyboards and I still wonder if it's just better to use a USB or KVM switch and do the switching via those boxes instead of using the device buttons on those kind of keyboards and mice to do the switching?
