USB troubles

Urgh, it's a never ending torrent of problems with XP

today's issue is USB, usb 1.1 devices work fine, but when i try to plugin my USB2.0 Camera it comes up with the following message:

if i click on the balloon i get this screen, as you can see apparently the individual ports in the hub aren't USB2.0

www.imageshack.us

i have gone into safe mode twice and uninstalled all USB devices, then restarted windows, and the problem is the same, also the ports on the top of my case say "usb device not recognised" when i plug it in there

in device manager i have the following under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers":

Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

uninstalling various combinations of these doesn't work either

To make it clear (as i've had problems on other forums): I have one USB2.0 device (the camera) connected to a USB2.0 cable, connected to an onboard USB2.0 port with USB2.0 drivers, there are no USB hubs connected to the computer

Any ideas?

Looks to me like your camera software stuck you with an unasked for liunk to a website belonging to Imageshack. It is not a hardware problem, IMHO - it is malware. They want you to upload your images to their site (as an image host) - for a feee of course!

My suggestion is forget about connecting your camera to the computer. It had always been somewhat of an abomination - wastes your camera battery and ties down your system.

Get a reader/write and simply move your media from the camera to the computer. It's a lot faster and cleaner. And, if you get a second media module, your camera is ready to go immediately.

thanks for the reply but you've got the wrong end of the stick totally

i thought that vBulletin tags( = image tags) would work here, i was mistaken, these are the links to the two pictures:

Assuming the camera is 2.0 compliant, as is the cable and the onboard USB port. The only reason I can think you're getting that message is:

A:You're not using the proper drivers from your motherboards manufacturer.
B:UBS 1.1+/2.0 is not enabled in the BIOS.
C:You don't have XP service pack 1 or greater installed. (Probably not this one).

Those are the only three that come readily to mind.

The driver is displaying as Enhanced PCI to USB, which is the 2.0 driver... Sorry, but I'm baffled.

Would be helpful to have another 2.0 compliant device to check. Then you could at least rule out the camera/cable if the problem persisted. Anyway, hope you manage to solve it.
