I'm gonna be doing voice recognition stuff fairly soon and I have two questions

1) What is the cheapest one out there? (That works reasonably)

2) What is the best one out there? (Also reasonable..I don't need to listen to music or play games with this headset)

pio, do you mean voice to text ????

if you do, most of the software packages include a headset !!!

hope you have a voice profile that the software likes... 90 to 95 % sucks. The 5 to 10% missed is a real pain because the machine error is not like a dictation error from a secretary. most of the time the error words seem to come from way out in left field.

Yeah I mean voice to text

Office XP will have voice to text built in, but doesn't come with a headset..so I wanna look up headsets to that when I get a copy, I can try it out.

I got 2 or 3 lying around but no packages with makers name...

seems like Best Buy & Office Depot used to carry them for around $12 or so.

But these are not USB, they just plug into your sound card.

Yes, I think those are the only USB ones available since a friend of mine got the same thing.

He likes them but I think if you can use the regular ones (none USB), it would be far cheaper.

I got a pair of noice cancelling headsets from Radio Shack for about $25 and they worked really well for internet telephoning.

Oh yes .... IBM supplies a list of 'approved' headsets & sound cards for use with it's voice recognition SW. MS probably has some sort of vendor list as well.

Need to be careful of some headsets as they are for phones & do not have the right jack for sound cards ( most of what plantronics makes & I have a couple of those too )

Plantronics and Telex seem to have their hands all over this biz. To achieve USB connectivity, they simply make some kind of orb that converts A/D;D/A and uses one of their other standard head sets. Expect to pay $70 or so for USB (see Project Jukebox on my web site).
