I've been getting BSODs and have had trouble fixing the issue. I'm on windows 7 with latest windows updates. Here is the dump/error code.
040911-22526-01.dmp 4/9/2011 1:34:40 PM BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER
Bug Check Code: 0x000000fe
Param 1: 00000000`00000008
Param 2: 00000000`00000006
Param 3: 00000000`00000006
Param 4: fffffa80`04e88640
040811-24102-01.dmp 4/8/2011 12:25:34 PM BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER
Bug Check Code: 0x000000fe
Param 1: 00000000`00000008
Param 2: 00000000`00000006
Param 3: 00000000`00000006
Param 4:fffffa80`05265640
The utility I run to read windows dump files also says it was caused bu usbhub.sys at address usbhub.sys+17fa
Using microsoft's website: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff560407%28v=VS.85).aspx I've learned the bug code represents this error in plain English "Timed out waiting for the port-change state machine to be disabled." I have found little information on that specific error code, but plenty on USB_BUGCODE in general.
----------------------------------------------
I've done some internet research to learn that there are a variety of things that can cause this such as:
Bad usb driver: I've uninstalled the usb drivers and restarted to let windows install them. Also, I've updated with latest windows updates and optional updates. This BSOD has also persisted through 2 reformats
Power issues: I've added in a battery back up and changed the power supply.
Bad usb devices: I've unplugged everything and worked with only the keyboard and mouse. I've also replaced the keyboard and mouse with a set that I know works well on another system in use.
-----------------------------------------------
Other things to note: When it starts to happen, there will tend to be a "fit" of BSODs all within the same 2-3 hours and then it won't happen again for an extended portion of the day. For example, last night between 1 and 3 am I had 5 BSODs but prior to that I hadn't had one in nearly 24 hours.
At this point I am starting to suspect the motherboard because I've run out of ideas, but if there's something I missed any help would be appreciated!
