Godzilla!

I was deseeding some jalapenos earlier and I thought I washed up pretty well. I guess I didn't. Never touch sensitive areas afterwards, even if you think you washed good. I need to invest in some latex gloves to keep in the kitchen.

This isn't my first time, either. Guess I'm a slow learner. Getting in the shower only made it burn worse. Finally I soaked up in some cold milk and that seemed to alleviate the pain somewhat.

Yeah, the capsaicin-laden juice in "hot" peppers will get ya...I've forgotten and rubbed my eyes before...FIRE!
I use waterless hand cleaner that's meant to remove grease since the juice is oil-based.

Goes for any hot chilis. I use nitrile gloves, and find them a bit more resistant to tearing apart from a slight knife nick. I learned my first time making hot sauce, when my hands were numb and tingly for a few days after.

I learned my lesson when after slicing up habaneros. I took my contacts off for the night and next day when I put them in my eyes. The burn! Ripped those suckers out asap.

It should only hurt at first until your body starts releasing endogenous opioids to counter the pain. There are capsaicin ointments for pain relief for this purpose. It's basically like getting high from cutting yourself.

Don't rub your eyes.

Hot Sauce!: I never de-seed jalepenos. I wash them, twist off the stems and then chop them very fine (seeds and all) and include with my homegrown tomatoes (1 pound peppers for each 10 pounds tomatoes) and some salt and pepper (and citric acid, 1/2 teaspoon/quart), boil some and can for indefinite storage. I made loads this year.

I thought it was common sense to wear gloves? Vinyl glove packs are cheap, I wear them even for Onions. You guys are morons

My wife grew some habaneros on the deck years ago, and one afternoon I picked a few for her to use in some chili. Didn't cut them or do anything else with them besides pick them off the plant and place them on the kitchen counter. Our kids were all young at the time, and one of them needed her face washed or something, and I ended up touching her lip. Not good. We both learned our lesson on handling peppers.

I was deseeding them to fill with cream cheese, wrap in bacon, and throw on the grill.

And it wasn't my eyes.

Eh... jalapenos aren't really that hot.
I've grown randomly hot peppers that I started to feel it on my hands...

I make poppers almost exactly like that, except I put a small segment of a pepperoni stick inside each one. I also bake them on a sheet first, and then throw them on the grill at the end just to crisp up the bacon.

So, you're telling us that you peppered up your peter?

honestly, I've rubbed my eyes so many times after chopping habeneros that I've come to "enjoy" the pain.

Pepperoni isn't my preference for cured meat, but I'm going to try that with andouille or salami.

I made a thread awhile ago about getting hot sauce in my eye. I think it was my ghost chili sauce. Burns like hellfire, but it's over soon enough. Still beats a day at work. It'll be a cold day in hell before I wear rubber gloves for anything aside from toxic chemicals, and I only grudgingly do it then.
