I foolishly bought a microatx case and 145w power supply to go with a microatx mobo that I was gonna give to a relative. But the motherboard would not power up under the 145w power supply (abit wb6 w/ pII/350). I ended up buying an ATX case with a 250w supply for the microatx mobo - what a bummer!

What microatx motherboards are out there that don't consume a lot of power? It looks like Athlon / Duron chips require 250w+ power.

Thanks,
Mentallo

you can use it to power extra drives but you would really need a full tower to fit it inside your case. 145, didn't even know they still made those! I thought 230 was the lowest...

I've got the case and power supply ... I'm looking for a motherboard that will receive enough power from the 145w power supply to power it up along with say a modem, floppy drive, hard drive, and a cd-rom drive.

Motherboard vendors don't seem to list the information of how much power there boards require.

I have an Intel WL810 mobo, Celeron 433, and a 15GB Maxtor running on a 145 watt powersupply. Quite stable; have had no power-related problems at all. This mobo is OK, but the integrated sound stinks and (in my case) is actually useless.

WL810's are on sale HERE if you're interested.

Good luck,
Jeremy

My cousin just built a Duron 600 with a 145 watt supply. It works, but I wouldn't do it. The other thing is that you will have a hard time finding something that will fit into a micro ATX case. I have a Soyo micro ATX motherboard with a K62-350 and a 145 watt supply. But I don't even like that. It's just too small when you start to add drives and CD roms and such. Those cases and power supplies were were for stripped, basic machines.

You might be able to make a spark with an electric lighter to start the bonfire you need to throw that POS er.. PS into.

Of course these are just suggestions
