Hi Guys,

I have a friend who's trying to sell me his 4600 for $150. I'm debating whether I should buy it and wanted to get your thoughts. I would describe myself as someone who wants a good performance/$ deal, yet willing to spend a little extra for hardware that won't become obsolete too quickly. So given what is out on the market, and the fact that the 4600 doesn't support DX9, is this a good deal? Would I be better off spending a little more and getting something newer? TIA.

Not really worth it, imo. You'd be better off saving $50 and getting a ti4200 or buying a 9600 pro for $150, which should have more longevity than the ti4600.

I don't think that the 4600 is worth that much money. I don't agree with getting a 4200 because it is already and obsolete piece of crap. I do recommend getting the 9700 nonPro. I goes for about 200 dollars. It has AGP 8X and 256-bit memory bus width and 8 pixel pipelines and DX9 support. Because of these features, I think that price this card is worth getting.

I agree that, for a serious gamer, a $150 9600P is the realistic minimum good purchase at this point. The GF4 and 8500 are not really great deals as new purchases, particularly at 9600 prices.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for your input. I talked to my friend and persuaded him to sell me his 4600 for $100 and I'd give him my old GF2 MX so he can build a non-gaming rig with his other used parts.

Nice deal. Paid $120 for my 4600 in May. What brand is yours?

Rest easy, $100 for a Ti4600 is a solid deal. Besides, it'll run all games right now perfectly fine. (It only suffers primarily if you run AA, AF, compared to later generation vid cards). DX9 support is overrated so don't fall into the hype.................not yet anyway.

I don't know what you're smoking, but a 4200 will be very viable for at least another 8 - 12 months.

I agree with the first reply....get a 4200 or a 9600, and I'd personally reccomend the 9600 since it happens to have better performance and DX9 support. It sets you up for the future a bit more.

Sweet deal and i agree with the earlier post about the 4200 or 9600, though i would personally go for a 9800np if i was either going for the 9600 or ti4200.

I don't know about that, I was pimping my GF3 Ti 200 until yesterday, the only reason I upgraded was getting ready for HL2(got a 9800 non-pro for $180). Framerates weren't spectacular, but I could run just about any game at 1024x768 w/all goodies at 60+ fps.

Thanks for spoiling my recent GF4 TI4200 purchase :frown: but i look at this way, A) mine has VIVO so i can mess with video editing. and B) when both cards lose 50% of their value, mine will only have lost 55$ while the 9700 will have dropped to 100$.

then when its time again to upgrade ill get the AIW 9800
