Used to post, but doesnt anymore

I just upgraded the mobo and cpu on my pc.

When they booted the motherboard with their equipment at the store, the pc said it was running a 2400+ at bootup.

During my installation, I reset the CMOS and it booted up with my old equipment fine but the pc said it was running a 1800+ at bootup.

I went in the BIOS and changed the FSB from 100 to 266 and the multiplier from AUTO to X7.5. My PC didnt post. I then reset the CMOS by shorting the jumper. The PC still doesnt post . The fans and drive and lights turn on, but no post.

Am I missing something? Anyone have any ideas?

the PC is a :
MSI KT6-Delta-LSR (VIA KT600)
AMD 2400+
3X Crucial PC-2100 256mb
Nvidia Ti500

I popped the CMOS battery out and back in and it posts now.

my confusion is, why is the mobo saying its a 1800+ ? SHouldnt it boot up fine with a FSB 266 and multiplier X7.5? Why did it show up as a 2400+ in the shop?

its a jumperless model, so it looks like everything is controlled in the bios.

Whoa, you need to be at 133FSB, not 266 (it's DDR = double data rate, 266 is trying to run your system at 533FSB)

Set your FSB to 133 and put your multiplier back to AUTO and you'll be fine.

Do you think they did the same thing in the shop without me noticing?
I had the impression that the mobo displayed the CPU as a 2400+ at first boot.

The board should have come set to 100 unless it had an auto feature for that too. If it booted at 2400+ without them ever going into the BIOS then they probably set it at that before.

I have had brand new boards show up with non-fail safe settings before though (mabye ones that were tested or something).
