Used windows based OC utility now no POST

I have a Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF-9 6100/430 mobo. Thought I would try using the bundled Easytune utility to see if I could get a little more overclock (was running A64 x2 3800+ @ 2200 ). I decreased the multiplier and increased the FSB and the thing froze.

I killed the power and now it won't POST. I've tried clearing the CMOS by shorting the pins and yanking the BIOS battery but still nothing. Also tried reseating the RAM but still nothing.

I thought a windows based utility would only apply temporary settings, any reason it would refuse to POST? Maybe I fried the onboard video?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ok.... You killed the power but did you unplug the power cable from the psu and wait a couple minutes? Some motherboards go into a type of safe mode that will still exist even if you reset cmos.

By Post do you mean that the computer cuts on and you can hear the fans running just no video?

Pulled the power cable, pulled all components, left the battery out overnight. Still won't post, the fans and drives spin up but no beep and no video. I think an RMA is in my future.

Try this:

1. Turn off power supply by the switch on the back or unplug it from the wall

2. Remove everything except CPU, and vid card

3. Remove CMOS battery and set jumper

3. Press the power button to discharge the capacitors.

4. Wait 15 minutes, reset jumper to original position

5. Replace CMOS battery and insert one stick of RAM

6. Plug in PS/2 keyboard (not USB!!)

7. Press and hold the "insert" key on the keyboard. As you are holding the key down, switch the PSU on.

8. Turn on the power.

9. You should hear beep...immediately let go of the insert key and press delete key (or corresponding key on Gigabyte board to enter BIOS)

10. Enter BIOS and reset optimized defaults.

11. Reboot, enter BIOS again and set up BIOS parameters as needed

If you cannot enter BIOS as in step 10, you can reset CMOS for 8-hours. If that does not work, try leaving the battery out for 24-hours and the jumper in the reset position. I once had a problem like this and it took 24-hours of reset to finally get into BIOS.

I have used this procedure successfully to bring an ASUS A8N-SLI and a DFI Ultra-D motherboard "back to life."

I've had two of these boards go bad on me now. Did you get it working or find any helpful info?

I hope nothing got fried... I've tried those OS OC programs before, but there are usually HORRIBLY unstable. I thought my comp was fried from the same thing, but thankfully a reset CMOS fixed everything. good luck in any case...
