64.154.60.184 is up and running now, too. Tech support told me, *not* to use news.usenet... and use the IP #s instead when using NewsBinPro. The load balancing switch will put you back to the same crashed server, when there are problems and it's best to bypass news... ...and there is usually atleast one server down.

If you're looking for Usenet services, avoid Athenanews at all costs. They claim highspeed service but they've been nothing but dialup slow. I got decent speeds for 1 day this month and the rest has sucked. They have never responded to an e-mail about the terrible service. I'm obviously looking elsewhere but I have to at least use the time I paid for. Giganews and Easynews are fantastic but if you like to download a lot they're quite pricey. I'm going to try Astraweb (i think that's the name) and 100proofnews next to see how they are.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Usenetserver has sucked big time for the past month. They "Network Status" page has been updated virtually every day with "We are working to correct retention problems". This is EVERY DAY. Have unlimited download and high bandwidth is worthless when they don't have anything worth downloading!!!!!!!

Thanks. I will add the server to newsbin later on when I switch to my download machine.

I am using newsbin and the 5 numerical servers and service is great. I would have not renewed if the service was as lousy as it was (until I fixed the problem). That's my $0.02 just in case people are thinking that things are really bad with it. Might be just on your end.

verizon's server is awesome too...it used to have a 30+ day history, but they kept dropping it, and now it's around 10 days...which is good, since i only check newsgroups out once a week or so...almost no missing posts either.

only downside is i'm on verizon's 700kbps plan, so i max out at 90kb/s

seems like newsbin pro doesn't know how to switch or turn off servers if it's not working.. kept on trying the .179 server when it was down.

I have Charter Pipeline and they cap their news server at 32k/sec with only two connections allowed. I signed up with usenetserver.com Nov. 25th. Seems to be good so far. I average about 115k/sec. As for a news reader Im suprised that no one has mentioned Nomad News 2000. If your into downloading the latest games or movies its great. Plus it lets me use mutiple accounts at once. Im using usenetserver with six connections and Charter Pipeline for another two, all at once. great little program.

I decided to try 100proofnews since they now have a 10 day free trial period. If today is any indication of their service, I will be cancelling very soon. They seem to have good retention but their speed is horrible. How can they list high-speed access without being struck by lightning. Looks like I'm going to keep looking...
