Thanks for supporting WebUseNet in the past and present, we are announcing a new platform for UseNet access. The following new plans are available now:

High Speed Unlimited Unlimited Downloads, 6 Connections, 2Mb/sec $14.95
Dial-Up Unlimited 1 Unlimited Downloads, 1 Connections, 64Kb/sec $5.95
Dial-Up Unlimited 2 Unlimited Downloads, 2 Connections, 32Kb/sec $5.95

New System:
We will be offering this on the new Tornado based software, this system allows us much greater use of our current cap-x and provide for much higher retention amounts. This system has a front end which talks to several back end servers, allowing us to be more granular with retention numbers. Can?t promise retention yet, because the back ends still haven?t rolled over, but a little tease is; text groups currently back to Jan 2002, *pic* groups over 14 days, *multi* groups over 10 days, and all other bin groups over 5 days. I am hoping for 30 days of *pic* and 15-20 days for the other binaries. These will increase over the month of September, as we move equipment back to Atlanta. We are also aggressively spam filtering these back ends to provide a more pleasant usenet experience. Speed has increased significantly, as the headers are totally handled by the front ends, only calling to the back ends for the bodies. The completion and resilience of the system is also increased as the front ends now talk to multiple back ends, this allows one server to fill in the missing parts from other servers, we are seeing great results from this. In fact we can take down servers on the backend to add disk with out any user knowing it.

New Billing:
If you currently are an active UseNetServer subscriber, you will be converted and credited a pro-rata amount for multi month accounts automatically. You will also receive a special grandfathered account of $13.95 for high speed accounts for the 1st year. We will be billing monthly on all accounts, there will no longer be multi month accounts. We will also be accepting payments via money orders for as many months as you would like to purchase (minimum 3 months). Please note billing will also now be every 30 days, not based on a date

Anyone a customer of this news provider? Reviews? I used Easynews before but I used up the 6GB quota way too fast and it was costing me too much money.

What did you mean by...

????????????

I just looked at Easynews.com and it says 6GB for 14.95??? I'm hooked up with Giganews right now (6GB for 11.95) and I don't have any complaints but I would be more than willing to hookup with this company or Easynews for unlimited downloads. Does Easynews have unlimited or did I miss something? Also does anybody have an account with this company so they can give us some more info on speed, retention and reliability?

I am have abeen a long time susbscriber, as of 10 mins I can get get on the new server, Never had a problem maxing my dsl (1.5) line on the old server.

The old rates were not very competitive unlimited for the year was like $1200

They ARE the if not one the biggest NNTP providers.

Highly reccomeded

Yes, I was a subscriber for 2 years and the subscription just ran out last week. The first year, I did the low-cost plan, paid for by the year at $50/year. It was a supplement to cover whatever my at&t news server did not cover (attbi has been pretty good lately though they dropped a series of pirate software groups).

Usenetserver was very reliable and speeds were fast enough to keep up with my 1500kbs cap (1 stream would almost reach the cap, 2 concurrent streams kept the meter pegged (I use dumeter). They had all the main groups and retention was good.

At the end of the 1st year, I renewed for the next and the unused gigabytes were carried over (I think the plan was 1GB/month).

However, with the change in plans, the cheapest is now 13.95/mo ($168 per year) which is NOT HOT! At least not compared to my previous $50, even though the GB's are higher.

I am looking for other alternatives that would cost $100/year or less.

Check this free one (no binaries): http://news.cis.dfn.de/

This is free with a $4 signup (yes binaries - low limit though):
http://www.teranews.com/

I tried and canceled this (good price but didn't work):
http://www.100proofnews.com

I am very interested in recommendations. It does seem that prices have gone up around the board over the last few years.

Thanks,
Gary

This is simply too good to be true. Even if it's true, it won't be fun when everyone signs up with them. Or am I wrong?

After re-reading my post, I could see it was confusing so I will edit it.

No, it was attbi that dropped the warez groups, not usenetserver!

Compared to the next best thing which imo is easynews you 6gb for 10$ a month (they also have a nifty HTML interface)

the math is for new subs
10$ x 12 120$ 6 x 12 72GB ulimited bw?
15 x 12 180$ Ulimited GB 2mb/s

i can downlaod 72gb in 2 weeks

I've been using them for about the past week and have been fairly satisfied. The speeds have been pretty good at a solid 1.5 Mbps. The bigger groups like cd.image and the like seem to have about a 10 day retention period. The retention may not be as good as Easynews but damn 20 gig per day! This is getting me back to where I used to be with @Home in the old days. The servers have been bogged down since they dropped their price but they're adding new hardware. If you use the name of a popular bot program that you would use to download binaries for a coupon code, they will drop the price to $14.45 a month. Check it out here and here.

As they were putting up the new hardware, they left some of their servers wide open for anyone to use. I was pulling 450KBytes/second for most of the time they were available... and if I can get that, hell yeah I'll pay $15/month!

Hey SirDante-
I would say it probably averages out to about 500kbps. It seems to slow down and ramp back up again constantly now. I'm still fairly pleased. I defy anyone to tell us about a hotter deal on usenet!

I prefer Easynews because it's cheaper and I don't use up the GB anyway. I like the nifty web interface and with the Zip Manager I don't get any corrupted files. Can't beat their retention rate either....something like slightly over a month.

I can use up 6GB in my sleep, literally! Easynews is great if you have alot of money or can stay within their 6GB/month download. But that's definitely not me though. By the way they do offer free trial 1GB accounts in case you don't already know, they have a link to it on their homepage.
