I'm using newsbin. Can someone tell me the multiple servers (or the east one)? I'm so tired of it being crappy, but it sounds like it's not if I can get it to use multiple servers. That would make this a HOT DEAL once again

Ok, since I got a few PMs regarding this .... you just need to put all the following servers into newsbin or any other binary reader and then newsbin will be able to get the data from multiple servers.

east.usenetserver.com
64.154.60.179
64.154.60.180
64.154.60.181
64.154.60.182

will it pull from each server on its own or do I have to select each server like in Grabit?

I only know how it works in newsbin. Newsbin will automatically select the best server to download the file there is nothing that you must manually select, just select the files as usually and that's it.

Wow, I was all happy at first, thinking 2MB/sec, I could split it 6 ways with buddies and still get decent rates... but then I realized, 2Mb/sec is only 250KB/sec, and that divided 6 ways is 40KB each which still isn't bad but isn't all that fast

I used to get 6MB/sec. I'm on my school's ethernet tho. I'm thinking you're only getting 250k/sec because of your network limitation.

Where do you get those IPs from? I DNSed them and got the following:

east.usenetserver.com -> 64.154.60.171 -> t01.atl2.webusenet.com
64.154.60.179 -> fe02.atl2.webusenet.com
64.154.60.180 -> fe03.atl2.webusenet.com
news.usenetserver.com -> 64.154.60.181 -> fe04.atl2.webusenet.com
64.154.60.182 -> fe05.atl2.webusenet.com

Any of the neighboring IPs yield unknown641540601**.webusenet.com

Assuming that the fe01.atl2.webusenet.com is also a server, you can add 64.154.60.178 to your server list as well. Not sure if it works. Anyway, I'm sure someone can explain this better than me. I have no idea what i'm doing

[EDIT]
Nevermind.. I get it..
64.154.60.179 - 64.154.60.182 are all news.usenetserver.com
64.154.60.171 seems to be the only one for east.usenetserver.com

iwearnosox,

That's a totally localized issue, i.e. there's something wrong with your dialup or computer. Figure out how to keep your computer on the net then give it a shot.

Are you sure you know what you just said? The problem is not my computer or ISP. I am able to stay on the net for 8 hours at a time and Dialer 2000, which I use, keeps me online most of the night. The Problem is I cannot retrieve the thread well from Usenetserver well. I have tried value news for one month and they are fast. However, it's not too complete.

So that's the problem I think.

I subscribed about 20 days ago, and in the past 10 days it's been terrible. The first 10 days were awesome though, 500kB/s download

Now I'm having problems getting groups and headers D:

Was that recently, I'm starting to have lots of missing posts on my roadrunner server, whereas normally I can at least find enough files to complete a post. Speed on RoadRunner is solid. 1700 - 2100 is about what I see reported in Newsbin and DUMeter.

Now, with Usernetserver.com, I can use it from anywhere, as long as I only use it from one IP at a time right? So I could use it at work, and then from home later? -TAL

On a related note, those of you who are using NewsBin Pro, have you ever noticed problems with excess CPU utilization under WinXP? I'm using 4.0 B22 and see that NewsBin takes up a decent amount of CPU during normal times, but even after it has finished downloading everything, CPU usage will spike up to 100% and stay there. I usually queue up a huge list every day or two to download, so I'm not quite sure if it's a gradual increase or if it hits a spike at some point.

I can't remember if I saw this under Win2k because I was mostly using 3.32 back then.
The box I download on is P3-933 with 512mb ecc registered sdram, serverworks chipset mobo and a couple 10k scsi drives.

Wondering if it's just me.

I have had these guys before.

Most usenet servers i get 160kbs down :my max speed" on this usenet servise i get 120kbs down.

plus retention on GOOD groups are 3 days, SOME are 5 days and all text based groups are 10 days.

IMO not worth it at all.

Is there anyplace else that you can get unlimited downloads for $15/mo? You just have to watch the groups everyday to insure you get it all. If there is another service with unlimited downloads let me know so I can try them out.

ALRIGHT! I'm a believer. So far so good. I signed up finally, as RoadRunner was missing almost all of a couple posts I was waiting for...... to my joy, I find that usenetserver.com peaks out my cable modem for speed, and has the full post I was looking for! AS well as about 3 trillian other ones I hadn't been able to get. Well worth the $15. -TAL

How does this apply to us folks on the west coast? My e-mail says to use news.usenetserver.com
Is there ip's for the west coast? Will that make things faster for us west coast people? That way there's not too many hops right?

They tell everyone to use news.use..... but obviously it does not work really good. Just put all servers in newsbin and let the program decide which server is the best/fastest to use.

BTW, they now have an additional server and might add yet another one later on this week.
New server: 64.154.60.183
