User Permissions - WinXP

Hi

I have a copy of WinXP Pro. I recently created some accounts to let my little brothers use the computer. I found I can only have two types of user: Limited and Administrator. I created limited accounts for them, but they can't play some games. I'd like to know if there are any advanced options since I'd like them to allow them to play some games, while restricting other apps (i.e kazaa). Thanks

Yes. I found out they can play the sims, but can't save. I guess they don't have enough permissions to write on The Sims folder, I tried to share this folder, but It says I have to move its contents to "My Shared Documents" I know there must be another way to let them access it.

I think you can get the desired results by turning off the "Use simple file sharing" option. You can find this by opening up the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, select Folder Options, then go to the View tab. Once this option is off, you should now have a Security tab when checking folder properties, and this is where you can add write access for guests or limited users.

I agree with the above...shut down Simple File Sharing is step 1 -- from any open folder choose tools >>Folder Options..>>click the view tab >> Scroll down to the bottom of the list and uncheck "simple file sharing".

Once you do this you will have much more granularity in the way you set permissions.

Now figure out what permissions you need to give for what. If they can't access a specific game, go to that game folder, right-click on the folder icon, choose properties >> Security Make sure that the users name is listed and they have all the permissions checked. There is a lot of tweaking you can do here, but it's easier...if you trust them...to just give them blanker permissions.

If they are having trouble with specific files, do the same thing above for any files they are having trouble with.
