Don't feel too bad. I have a user that thinks when he turns his monitor off he is turning the entire computer off. I asked him to reboot and he just turned his monitor off and back on again.

I cannot disagree with that, since many users where I work know infinitely more than me about how to fsck up a computer in 10 minutes.

I get this one a LOT at my computing site.Originally posted by: Zenmervolt
I work in a campus computing lab. I'm just a peon, far from any real expert in computers. And compared to most of the users, I might as well be Albert friggin' Einstein. Some experiences:
(necessary info: Computers in our labs save to the C:\temp directory by default)
User2: I saved a document but now I can't find it.
/me looks through C:\temp and "My Documents", finds nothing.
Me: Where'd you save it?
User2: I saved it in "My Documents", I'm sure of it.
Me: Hmm, that is strange. Do you still have the document open or can you bring up the website you downloaded it from?
User 2: I don't remember where I had to go to get it. I saved it last week.
Me: Uh, the computer deletes everything you put on the hard drive when you log out. Otherwise all the space on the computers would be used up in less than a week.
User2: WHAT?!
Me: *shakes head* Sorry. *walks away*

Mundane, but you know how it goes...

User: I can?t log into my computer this morning.
Me: Have you changed passwords recently?
User: Yes, and CAPS Lock is not on.
Me: My log shows either your username and/or password is not correct and that multiple attempts were transacted with incorrect information. I?ll reset your password and you?ll be prompted to create a new password the next time you log in.
User: OK, it works now but what could cause this problem?
Me: You repeatedly entered in incorrect information so the system locks you out to make sure you don?t gain unauthorized access.
User: Well, someone else must have been trying to get into my computer then because I didn?t do anything wrong!
Me: Relax, forgetting or typing in your password wrong happens to everyone. No big deal I reset it and you?re good to go.
User: I didn?t do anything wrong, I didn?t forget my password! I didn?t type the password in wrong. Someone else must have been trying to access my computer!
Me: The security system shows only you and one other person having entered the building at the time your network login failed.
User: That must be who tried getting into my computer then! I?m going to call HR and have them look into it, who was it!? I?m going to get to the bottom of this!
Me: Me.
User: You!?
Me: Yes, I was the only other person in the building at that time.
User: What were you doing using my computer!?
Me: Sigh?.
Kinda makes you wanna get out a baseball bat doesn't it?Originally posted by: Sketcher
