User: I can?t log into my computer this morning.
Me: Have you changed passwords recently?
User: Yes, and CAPS Lock is not on.
Me: My log shows either your username and/or password is not correct and that multiple attempts were transacted with incorrect information. I?ll reset your password and you?ll be prompted to create a new password the next time you log in.
User: OK, it works now but what could cause this problem?
Me: You repeatedly entered in incorrect information so the system locks you out to make sure you don?t gain unauthorized access.
User: Well, someone else must have been trying to get into my computer then because I didn?t do anything wrong!
Me: Relax, forgetting or typing in your password wrong happens to everyone. No big deal I reset it and you?re good to go.
User: I didn?t do anything wrong, I didn?t forget my password! I didn?t type the password in wrong. Someone else must have been trying to access my computer!
Me: The security system shows only you and one other person having entered the building at the time your network login failed.
User: That must be who tried getting into my computer then! I?m going to call HR and have them look into it, who was it!? I?m going to get to the bottom of this!
Me: Me.
User: You!?
Me: Yes, I was the only other person in the building at that time.
User: What were you doing using my computer!?
Me: Sigh?.
