Hey guys.

lil rudeguy wants to be able to use his Xbox 360 controller on his PC. Sounded easy enough, so I bought a wireless adapter for it. That did not work. So I purchased a wired one which also didn't work.

Does anyone have any experience setting this up? I downloaded the Xbox Wireless Controller software for PC from MS's website. Windows sees the controller just fine but the software does not.

HALP?

What OS and what game(s) are you trying to play using the 360 controller?

When I bought my wired 360 controller I simply plugged it into my PC. Windows (7/8) saw the controller immediately and I was able to use it. Some games support the 360 controller and some don't. On some games you have to enable gamepad input before it will start working.

ooooh....Thanks!

I have no idea what games. I just assumed you would plug it in and the xbox controller software would recognize it.

Just use program called Xpadder. No more issues with any controler and with any game.

Ur welcome

You don't need this crap (or any other software for that matter) when using a 360 pad unless the game has NO xinput functionality.
It should be plug and play, especially for W7+.

I don't know what's the problem, I bought an aftermarket Xbox360 controller (afterglow) from walmart and it plugs right into my USB port. No issue recognizing or any problem getting it to work.

I have read that some of the cheap wireless adapters are crap and don't work. My original MS works fine with two controllers and on two machines running both Win 7 + 8.1.

I dunno what wireless one I bought. The wired one if eforcecity and I've never had any issues with their cell phone stuff, so I bought their xbox adapter. Windows sees it just fine. Its in device manager. Just won't work.

lil rudeguy tried it in COD and Mortal Combat and neither worked. Is there something I have to do in the xbox software I downloaded (other than run it)?

I don't get what is wrong.

Thanks for the help guys. lil rudeguy is a gamer and I am not. Sucks when I can't fix stuff for him

ok thanks a ton

I don't know why he needs to use that stupid controller on his PC. He has some super funky 1250 button mouse and a gaming keyboard with more lights than most cockpits.

And headsets...the kid has a Steel Series wired headset, Logitech Wireless Headset, Turtle Beach Xbox headset and a backup Logitech wired headset. WTF do you need that many headsets for?

i don´t know, but i´m totally nuts for headsets, too
don´t even use them very often, but there is something about them that makes me want it, when i see a nice one in my price range
maybe it´s because it´s hardware + it´s like a fashion item that you wear (not like in public...just for yourself)

That's the thing though, and what that poster was saying; not all games actually support an xbox controller.

That is only for charging. You need the wireless pc adapter for it to work.

QFT, same thing with the plug and play combo they sell that includes the cable.

It will charge just fine and Windows will see the controller, but the controller is not usable without the wireless adapter.

The Xbox360 controller, wired or wireless, "for windows" or not are all exactly the same piece of hardware. The only difference is the packaging, and the wireless "for windows" version comes with a wireless PC adapter (the thing thats already built into your xbox 360) and the drivers to install it on a cd.

The Play and Charge kit does not convert a wireless 360 controller into a wired one though, and will not work on a PC. It either needs to be hard-wired or you need the PC wireless adapter.

Buy an afterglow controller. The driver is built into it. Plugged it in, it installed and was done.

Have you ever tried using a keyboard and mouse for a platform game or a racing game?

It's as bad as using a gamepad for an FPS
