I just picked up my first tablet, a nexus 7 16GB for my upcoming vacation. I won't have any type of connectivity when i'm out and about, only when i'm in the hotel room.
I tried using the google maps offline pre-cache thing to download the maps for the area i'm in right now and tried using it to go to work. It was working fine half way then all of a sudden the map throws me in some random spot. When I got to my work's parking lot, I pushed the GPS locator button and it seemed to put me back in the right area. i tried to set a nav back to my home address, but it wasn't able to find it. Does this mean that when i'm on vacation I will need to pin all my points of interest before venturing out with my tablet? Am I correct in saying that it's not as simple as using a stand-alone garmin gps, entering in an address and have it take me there?
My experience w/ navigation and android/idevices are limited. I also have a samsung galaxy s2 but never bothered trying this experiment since I have a data plan which i assume has a helping hand in navigating along with the gps signal. When I had a ipod touch 3g, i could never get a damn gps signal to lock either.
