Using Flask MPEG4

I've been reading alot about Flask and the DiVX codec and decided to give it a try.

I downloaded both and installed them...even placed all the divx codecs in the flask folder, but when I start, it says there is a problem with the MPEG plugin, so MPEG output won't be supported.

When I put in a DVD, it refuses to read one of the video tracks. It says this file does not appear to be a supported format (a .vob? The menu track works)?

The Flask readme mentioned a panasonic codec, but I don't know where to get that one.

it sounds like you are trying to use Flask before ripping the data off the DVD. This is a somewhat confusing aspect of Flask. Although it has a DVD mode, this will only work on unencrypted DVDs (i.e. home made) or hard drive partitions set up to mimic a DVD file system. Don't ask me about the specifics. I just know that if you want to use Flask on a regular DVD (i.e. commercial release), you are probably going to have to rip the data off the disk first. Once the data is ripped, you open Flask and use it to encode the file you ripped. Try the following site. It has some pretty good information (including info on rippers). I just made the jump into this area today and learned everything from scratch from this site. I am now halfway through Flasking Blade Runner. I used something called vobdec to rip the data.

The ripping process is fairly short (maybe 10-20 minutes depending on how fast your machine and DVD drive are. The Flasking process takes forever (10 hours minimum for a full length movie on most systems, sometimes MUCH longer). Blade Runner is going to take around 16 on my PIII 450 128MB system.
