As far as I can tell on iOS or Android that Talkatone seems to work pretty well for making and receiving calls: http://www.talkatone.com/ Allows you to send/receive texts over data as well.(So does the official Google Voice app if you don't already have unlimited texting that is.) Also lets you voice chat with Google Talk (The official app does too) and with Facebook buddies.
I use it with the official Google Voice app (for checking voice mail).
Does anyone else use this same solution or something different?
I'm sure having a back up app to make calls over data would be handy in case one app has an issue.
Is there a method to have voice mails automatically downloaded? In case you entered a bad area for data and didn't want to use up minutes? Like some of the visual voice mail apps that offer it? Would you have to set the cell number on the phone to Google Voice mail? Would this work with Google Voice?
