Using three monitors, with 6150 and 7800GT

I have asked this question a couple of times now, and never got a decent answer, but i'm hoping the wide availability of of nVidia 6150 boards has changed this, as well as the release of nView 3.5.

What i want to do:
> Use two 15" Dell Ultrasharp monitors on their sides (768x1024) as satellites
> With a single 20" Dell Widescreen in the centre
> Using an MSI 6150 board with DVI, and a 7800GT with 2x DVI
> I don't want any analogue connections, so i'm not interested in using the 6150 VGA
> It must be Dual-View (Triple-View) rather than Span mode due to the disparate resolutions

Q1 - Can i do this in windows with nView?
Q2 - Can i do this in Linux with Twinview?

I hope to God i can get a definate answer this time around.

your best bet would be to ask to manufacturer of the MB if the onboard video works when a discrete card is plugged in. I know it didn't work with AGP but with PCIe, maybe. Then ask NVIDIA if Dual-View works, but I'm pretty sure it would because windows supports multiple monitors anyways. You only need driver support for Span mode to fool windows into thinking there's only one really big monitor.

finally, I have to ask why you'd wanna mix onboard video with a 7800GT. What are you gonna do when you're gaming? disable two of the monitors? It would probably be worth it just to go for a second discrete card to handle the two side monitors, which lets your 7800GT focus on just drawing one monitor when you're gaming.

Triple view. hmm sounds like wisful thinking. Dont think you can do what you are hoping.

i don't want to use Span mode, specifcally because it would be impossible with monitors of completely different resolution. so i would be using the 20" widescreen as the primary monitor, and thus gaming, the second DVI port would merely provide for satellite monitors alonside the onboard DVI, a-la Dual-View (Triple View) mode.

thank you, but i could really do with a "yes" or "no" before i drop £250 on a monitor.

The forums at http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/ might be your best bet for a definitive answer. There's a wealth of advice on running multi monitor setups.

Also the multi monitor setups database http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/search.asp allows you to input the equipment you intend to use and see if anyone else is already using that config.
