USPS failing for a reason

I was sending a letter from NC to NC. Same State shipping. I asked her how much would it cost to make it get there by tomorrow, this is in the morning. She says almost $20. I asked nvm and put a normal stamp...less than $1. It got there the next day. WTF USPS

You want guaranteed next day or just hoping it'll get to it's destination next day?

Um, yeah. You will find the same thing at any shipper (only with higher prices). You are paying for a guarantee.

This is how it works:
You pay for a 50 cent stamp, and your letter is late: They shrug and say oh well, too bad.
You pay for $20 overnight shipping, and your letter is late: They apologize and refund the shipping cost.

And this is different than FedEx and UPS because......?

The $20 pays for the guarantee.

Shame on the USPS for overdelivering for less than $1. I guess they should have held on to it for a couple of days for ya?

First world problems. USPS is awesome. Use a foreign mail carrier and see what you think. Imagine it taking 3 months to get a postcard delivered. That's how the rest of the world works.

i too, get mad when i pick free 2 day shipping with amazon prime on an order placed at 4:30pm, and then have it arrive the following day. it angers me that i did not pay the extra $3.99 for the next day delivery.

Once I used the free ground shipping UPS option. I wasn't in a rush to get the package, However, one morning I checked tracking,and it arrived at the local UPS processing center a day early. Call to pick it up instead, and rep said, should be ready for pickup in the afternoon. Well, go there and the clerk says, "no, can't pick it up today. You'll have to wait for tomorrow."

I think, once the clerk realized I paid ground, they didn't want to release it early. I think most things to Alaska are shipped via air, so they didn't want to lose money. Seems kinda asinine to hold it though if it arrived sooner than expected.

I had an item come into my town and then get sent back out of my town then back to my town the next day for delivery. Explain how that makes any sense?

But guaranteed isn't really guaranteed. Last time I picked the next day option for shipping something, it arrived in the same amount of time it usually does.
