I used take a pound weight in my right hand and hold the package in my left hand and then close my eyes and then use my internal balance thingamajing that's in my brain to get the correct weight ( over or under 1 pound )
But I found that too inaccurate so bought myself a scale on Ebay

The USPS - where the only way to get it delivered tomorrow is to send it yesterday!

i wouldn't be surprised it first class is faster than priority--i use priority because it had the option of delivery confirmation. now with first class with confirmation, i think i will just use that.

of course, the most important thing when determining how fast it gets there is how your label looks. laser print the label with a bar code zip printed on it, and the optical readers can see it, otherwise it may not get read and would have to be routed by hand.

Oh WOW! Wonder how to ship'em though? Just drop'em off at the P.O.?
You would need a digital scale though pretty accurate, if this works I'm a happy camper!

I was wondering if there is any particular type of label (Avery #) that should be used that prints the right format.
In the past I have used the free USPS DC service and just printed the label on a plain piece of paper and just cut to size and clear tape over.

Go to the Airborne Express website and order some of their adhesive labels. They work perfect, they are free and they deliver them free!

Another problem on this whole deal is the fact that if you ship a package over 1 pound you have to ship it at a post office. I don't know if that means you have to stand in line, or that means you can just drop it off at the window or what not. Either way I don't think you can just put it in a mailbox

It's the only "business" I've ever heard of that raises prices as a result of declining sales. (truth - that's the reason they're doing it)

Priority Mail is essentially First Class for heavier items. You can't ship a 2 pound item First Class; it must go Priority Mail. You wouldn't want to ship a 4 ounce item Priority Mail; it gets labelled First Class.

Actually, that rule has been in effect since the days of the Unabomber.

As to the confusion about what will bew happening with DC

Delivery Confirmation service will be restricted to parcels only and will no longer be available for flat?size mail.
Means that there won't be any more delivery confirmation for the priority mail envelopes.

Delivery Confirmation options will be extended to First?Class Mail parcels.
Means that you can use it for 1st class Parcels.

To be a parcel it has to be big enough to fit on the labels and addresses on the front, and a box or be at least 3/4" thick.

Also:

. Can I drop my online label package in a USPS collection box?
A. Yes, if you have paid for postage online and printed a label with PC Postage service. If you use a postage meter, you can drop your Priority Mail item in a collection box as long as it doesn't weigh more than 5 pounds. If you are using postage stamps, aviation security requires that you take packages 16 oz. and over to your local Post Office for mailing.
from https://sss-web.usps.com/ds/jsps/showFaq.jsp

My read on that means that if you pay for shipping online you can put it in a collection box regardless of weight. The 1lb limit is only for stamped mail.

That said, what are the thoughts about using this to send packages, since you have a much more limited reciept of mailing? Supposedly you can bring your "stub" from the label and have the post office put a postmark on it. That would be a good reciept, but wouldn't save any time, because you would still have to wait in line.

Absolutely correct. As long as it's metered mail, you can drop anything in a blue box that fits

Wait until you see the the new priority (zone) rate increases. Depending on the zone delivery will cost DOUBLE. (coast to coast will be double)
