Does the USPS fuck up from time to time? You by-damned betcha they do...but when you compare those fuck-ups to the total number of packages and letters they deliver, they do a helluva good job. (the last figures I saw said they deliver over 200 billion pieces of mail each year) (but yes, their tracking sucks...and most of their employees just don't fucking care)

How many of those pieces of mail were junk?

Yes they successfully deliver all the shit I don't want and didn't ask for but they can't deliver an important package if their life depended on it.

Looking at that tracking the package never made it to USPS till after 7pm at night. Anything after 5pm usually will be counted as the next business day so I would count that as being mailed on the 4th not the 3rd.

yeah, let's kill the postal service which pays for itself and sell it off to a private company for pennies on the dollar! maybe comcast would take it? i'm sure that would turn out really fucking awesome.

Yea, 75 years of prefunded pension requirements will do that for you.

This is a myth. They only have to prefund pension/medical benefits of current/former employees as they're earned. Many publicly held companies do the same thing, otherwise they'd be carrying a massive liability on their balance sheet. They only have to estimate their obligations 75 years into the future, not prefund them.

The 75 year prefunding myth is spread by people who want you to believe that congress is trying to kill/privatize the USPS. Congress is only trying to ensure that USPS can meet its future obligations.

Poor tracking is hardly unique to the USPS. I frequently have issues with Fedex tracking not updating, to the point where I will check the tracker on the day of delivery and it will show it still at the initial point, but I text my wife and it's already delivered.

That's right. They all have issues. USPS is by leaps and bounds the best for me. I ship 3 - 15 packages a week. Almost always with USPS. Best value for sure.

The only time I ship UPS or Fedex is for really heavy stuff like a complete server in which they have the best rates by far.

DHL and Laser Shit are egregiously bad, all the time. D:

I have actually had a problem with rebuilding the snare drum heads and a new snare recently on Amazon.

I cancelled the order from customer service as it was all ready 9 days over due, that shipped weeks before that it said, and finally used Amazon Prime just to get things here tomorrow, they refunded that one as it has been stuck in traffic awhile.

Might work out better in the long run, upgraded a bit from the original order on what I wanted anyways, but the USPS does seem really borked to me atm, have never had that happen before.

I love USPS, it ships the fastest for the cheapest. Why are people so hung up on tracking, it's not like staring at the screen and f5ing for updates will affect how quickly it arrives at your door.

I am horrified at the way in which some U.S. folks hate public services like the USPS and praise private initiatives like FedEx and UPS. No matter how slow the USPS is, it's a vital service for the country. You're way too quick to want to dismantle it.

Boggles the mind, really...

I find the Postal Service mostly works and is always cheaper then UPS and FedEx. Americans have been brainwash from birth to HATE anything that is run by the government and yet will shell out triple the amount for lousy service from BIG CORPS who feel they are entitled to HUGE profits.

rudeguy is just having a terrible day:

--now, he learns that the USPS is truly one of the best delivery services in the world.

Maybe it's just the new UPS SurePost thing, but they really fudged up my last order that has been in the mail system for almost a month I had to redo.

The ball fell very badly there, and I had to get a cancel on one and reorder, it was that horribly overdue.

I like USPS, but I think they should look into ways of saving money. Mandated premises delivery costs more money than it's worth. If someone wants to live in the sticks, having to travel a bit for mail should be an understood cost. They could semi-privatize it by having general stores act as post office for the final leg. The store owner gets some money, and has people coming in regularly that may spend some money. That saves delivery costs, and cuts the cost of employment while adding value to the private sector.

I mean you already know the meaning so.....

Don't consider it "shipped" until it's recorded as arrived at a local USPS facility.
So... Amazon sends an email titled, "Your item has shipped!" which is often a filthy, dirty lie. For two days, an item I have on order has been listed as "Shipping today", another lie.

Thanks for that. I had heard that from several sources including people on TV and never bothered to look and see if it were real or not.

Holy crap. The link "disproving" the prefunding gives an example of hiring on a 25 year old and only having to prefund 50 years of his pension as part of the hiring process.

The 75 year thing is relative but the spirit of the moronic law is just the same.

Yea, I thought the same thing. I haven't been to the post office in a while, but I think mine said it will get mailed out the same day if you get it in by 5pm.

When you deposit something at a bank at 5pm and it doesn't count as that business day, do you run around screaming to burn the bank down or something? Shit, order a pizza at 11:59pm then bitch that it wasn't there the same day? Crazy shit man.

Personally, FedEx and UPS are way worse than USPS. Everything I've ever shipped from USPS has been on time, and everything I've gotten from them has been on time. I get buttfucked on shipping times by UPS and FedEx about 30% of the time.
