So I ordered a laptop from someone on eBay. They were in NV, and I live in Chattanooga, TN. He takes a while to ship it (out of town, whatever), but he sent me a tracking number. I've been checking it since I really need it...this is insane...

The USPS guy is always too lazy to go to my door, so I always get a "delivery attempted" slip, even though I am always home when the delivery was "attempted".

+1. This happens for nearly all of my packages sent through USPS. Good thing the post office is only a few minutes walk away.

I'll take USPS any day of the week over the buffoons at UPS. My last three Priority Mail packages went from CT to Texas in 2 days, CT to Florida in 2 days and CT to Finland in 6 days.

I just sent a box to China for $6. And a box to The Netherlands for $3. Both in about 8 days. WAY better than the $35-40 UPS and Fedex wanted to charge.

If you don't need super quick delivery, then USPS is the best way to send something on the cheap. And even if you do need quick, USPS International Expedited courtesy of Fedex still has a better price than Fedex themselves.

I just pick up my stuff by teleportation. Saves time and money.

I've had more wierd routing issues with UPS than USPS, though that might be better reporting/tracking by UPS.

Tracking is tough on teleported packages. You can know where it is or where it's going, but not both.

I ordered a package as a gift for someone in Boston. The vendor sent it USPS. They received it a few days ago. Today I got a message that delivery had been attempted but was unsuccessful and I/they needed to pick up the package within 15 days or it would be returned to the vendor. I'll do nothing and see just how this plays out.

For small items, I agree wholeheartedly, but USPS isn't price effective at anything over 10lbs or so.

I'm kind of in a pickle too with the shitty USPS. I sold a laptop on FS/FT to an AT member and I shipped on Aug 15. It arrived at his local sorting facility on Aug 19. It has sat there 10 days with NO attempted deliveries.

Let me guess, you used Parcel Post and not priority mail?

But then again, I wouldn't use either for a laptop. I'd rather pay a few bucks extra, and then at least I have real tracking.

Maybe they are taking it out for a test run and checking out how the wireless works.

Priority would've worked as well. For larger packages, there's a huge price difference between parcel and priority, and when that occurs your best bet is UPS/Fedex.

Parcel post is almost like media mail. It's on their lowest rung of priority. They deliver it whenever their loaders finally decide to load it on the truck. Parcel post doesn't have very many uses IMO.

No the only USPS option for a package that size is Parcel Post. I shipped it in the original dell box which was like 20x24x36

Funny how some people will find problems in the most trivial things in everyday life. I've been using USPS for internet transactions since the beginning and have had zero issues. I've never received a single complain from the buyer. On the receiving end though, I've had my package stolen on a few occasions from my door steps. Can't really blame US Postal though. I mean if we have Sharia Law for petite crimes in the US, we wouldn't have so many criminals in prison.

ahhhh, I see.

I never realized there was a size limit. I knew the weight limit was at 75lbs or so.

Unless you can stuff it in one of their flat rate boxes. Man, those things rock for small, heavy items! I don't think anyone else will ship 70 pounds for <$14 (down from ~$73 for priority, if you didn't have the flat rate box available!!!).
