Thanks, just found the problem. My Checkpoint Securemote was causing problem as usual. Uninstalled and worked! It's good to be wireless.

BTW, just some info on why they are unloading these 11mb cards. USR is rolling out there 22MB versions with I think 45-50MB ones coming out soon. Came across on their web site.

lol. yea. i saw the posts, but the faster stuff is proprietary so don't count on it going that fast.
I got notification mine is coming 2day airborne... should show up tomorrow.

the faster wireless technology is not proprietary. it's actually ieee 802.11a standard, but there have been problems with multi-vendor compatibility since it's still in the infant stage. it will replace 802.11b definitely, but not as fast since 802.11b dispersed very fast.

Received my cards
Installed on my laptop on Win XP Pro without a hitch
My desktop with Win XP Pro, would see hardware, but when pointed to driver location (1.30_Beta_1.08.02 beta drivers for XP) wouldn't see them as valid.
Older 1.28 drivers would install, but stay disabled.
Was anyone successfull running Wireless Access PCI Adapter on Win XP Pro desktop?
USRobotics tech support is impossible to get to.

future, I can't get the 1.28 drivers to install on my XP desktop either. Sees the drivers fine, enables fine, but won't work...

Has anyone got this working correctly?

GRR...inexcusable that they can't bother to support this product properly on MS's OS of choice for more than 6 months.

Well, I wasted another hour trying to no avail to get this to work. I drive-imaged back to a clean partition, then tried installing the netgear drivers, which are labled as xp compatible, but can't get XP to install them ("no information about this hardware" when I point them to the drivers.) Put the USR drivers back on, and everything looks kosher except that it can't see the wireless router that my d-link USB wireless card sees just fine.

Any ideas on how to force the install with the netgears, or other suggestions?

EDIT: Well, I think I figured it out.

From XP compatibilty post above:

"To configure your Wireless LAN Adapter in Windows XP, Click on Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, then right click on the Connectoid that is for your U.S. Robotics Wireless Access PC Card/PCI Adapter. Click on Properties, then click Configure. Click on the Advanced Tab and there you will be able to change the mode from 802.11b AdHoc Mode to Infrastructure or from Infrastructure to 802.11b AdHoc. "

I didn't realize it was set to AdHoc by default. Once I changed it to infrastructure, all seems to work fine. This is the setting needed to work with a router/access point. If you have just two wireless cards you want to communicate between, adhoc is what you want.

Will edit again if this changes.

Im a little confused about this setup---can someone explain this to me......

If i were to just to buy the combo, could i use it so that my laptop was wireless, with my desktop as the internet source?

Or, would i have to buy an additional wireless card for my laptop in order to make use of this combo?

Just received mine yesterday. I receive a notification from Dell one day saying that it is OOS and won't be sent until 5/23/02, then I receive it in the mail the next day. It seemed to install fine; I haven't had a chance to test it yet, as I don't personally have a wireless network, I purchased it to be able to get on my university's network that is in place in some parts of campus. The only thing I'm worried about is whether or not the 128-bit encryption will work, as I've heard of incompatibilities. The encryption is required, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
