I just reinstalled UT04 and man I played it for hours, the online portion is still very active with lots of custom maps.

I don't get why there aren't fun games like this any more

The Quake style of fighting 1v1 is just amazing.

It's still active for Onslaught and Invasion-RPG. Try the Omnipo)o(tents and Clan Death Warrant (Spam Vikings) servers. Recently I saw both Onslaught servers fill up to 32 players each at the same time.

I dont remember UT03, I think I played the demo of it. But I just remember playing the Vehicle CTF on it that was some fun times.

The only portion of the game with an active community is Onslaught (terrible), Insta lightshow gib ultrahook wc3 mod crazygrav lol custom music discoball edition deathmatch, and a small CTF population. And of course the ever present full demo servers.

I like onslought, The custom things are great, since the game is no longer in production, people can make new shiz.

Yep I was eagerly awaiting the demo played it and was like this is really no way as fun as UT04 and just went back to UT04 lol

There's some serious nostalgia going on here. I remember playing UT2k4 on my ol clunker of a Compaq with a 1GHz Athlon, 512Mb SSD, and ATI 8500 LE. Good times!

I may just have to reinstall 2k4 when I get off work! Lol

I remember my Prescott 3.4ghz and my GPU which I dont even know what I had was making me lag and I would get hangups.

Other then my CPU running at 80c on stock cooler, I bought a Aftermarket one dropped 10c much better but still sucked.

I built a x2 4200 with a 6800gt and it was pure win

So true, but they don't make 'em like this anymore, or I guess I should say the pedigree of the series has left an impression like a first kiss or your first car.

I remember the buildup that our clan had for this game, and we got little more than a cleaned up UT2k3 from it. Not that this was a bad thing, but we yearned for more at that point. Honestly, the original UT was the highwater mark for me. 24 player CTF Gauntlet was just a crazy map.

As a UT99 CTF fan, I wasn't real thrilled with Onslaught either the first few times I tried it. However, I kept coming back to it and really started to enjoy it and now I think Onslaught is a great game, and it's what makes UT 2004 a good game in its own right. Put some time into it and see if it grows on you.

You might also enjoy the non-competitive Invasion-RPG (aka "Monster Mash"), which is just a wild-and-crazy monster shooting gallery where the server remembers your IP and lets you level up stats and build a player over time. There are magic weapons, etc.

If anyone's interested in playing Onslaught or Invasion RPG today, I recommend the Ominp)o(tents and Clan Death Warrant servers.

It still has some activity for CTF. A number of modded servers (low gravity Instagib, sniper) are around. There are also a few regular weapons CTF servers that are still populated in addition to 5v5 clan match-style PUG matches that are organized over IRC.

Here are some server links to regular weapons CTF servers:

High Speed CTF (all CTF-Face) server

Terror Squad Clan all CTF-Face server

USonic www.UnrealArgentina.com server (Apparently there's an active UT99 fanbase in South America. They even have clans and supposedly there is clan activity.)

Xoldog 400 server (This is a German server that runs standard regular weapons CTF and custom maps, but with a ghey translocator throw limit mod. It's often populated during European prime time.)

PUG Matches: You might also enjoy 5v5 clan-match style PUG matches where people use Teamspeak for voice comm. In a PUG, two captains draft-pick the other 8 players for their team with the idea being to get balanced teams and a more intense game. They are organized on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) using a pugbot program. You can find them here:
