UT FPS on MX400 64MB (i'm stuck at 60fps!)

I'm testing one of these out and I just benchmarked it in UT (thunder.dem) and I couldn't get above 60fps. I thought it was a vsync problem, but it wasn't because vsync isn't enabled in UT (double checked to be 100% sure).

For example:
800x600x16 w/ all other features maxed out: 60.35
800x600x32 w/ all other features maxed out: 59.96
1024x768x16 & all other features maxed out: 59.75

That is NOT right! The other resolutions that I tried were fine (I checked my results against some reviewers' #s).

So, why am I stuck at 60!? WTF?!

NOTE: My refresh rate is set for 70Hz anyway.

I have about the same problem with my GTS 64mb only around 70 FPS. Which I to thought was low.

Maybe the game has a setting that limits the max FPS to 60?

My Kyro2 get's 109.09 at 800x600x16 so I don't think that it's a max fps.

Could it be the drivers holding it back? Detonator3 v12.41

I might format and reinstall with the GeForce2MX400 as the card right off the bat tomorrow. Don't worry though, this is my knock around, test partition. I took out the MX400 and put my Kyro2 back in and I'm back on my good partition.

There must be a reason for this though...it's utterly retarded!

Important specs:
1.4GHz Athlon Thunderbird (266MHz)
Epox 8K7A
256MB PC2100

UT is a CPU utilized game, meaning it relies more heavily on the speed of your cpu then of your Videocard. Dont Ask me why. I got the game 2 yrs ago on my p3 600 with voodoo 3 and got about 50-70 fps in 1024x768. This is why the game is not used in most benchmarks for videocards.

FFactory0x, then why is my Kyro2 getting 109fps at 800x600x32 (just tested again to quadruple check) if the MX400 is stuck at ~60!?

How do I run this benchmark? Im curious what my 1.4 GHz + Kyro2 can do.

Is this memory intensive at all (i.e. will my DDR help out)

I was wondering if maybe it was the game, so I tested Quake3a and for those three settings that I mentioned, I got unbelieveably high scores! Higher than the Kyro2.

This is so weird...

Hmmmmm. Im not an expert but from what ive seen and understood, Ut is a cpu utilized game. I might be wrong but thats what people have told me. As for u getting a lot of fps with Kyro 2 i have no clue. How fast is your proccessor?

DaZ, sorry, I think I already have someone lined up for the MX400. It was actually my friends, but he decided he didn't want it (didn't have the money, wish he would have told me before I bought it!) after he had it for about 2 hours. :|

Anyway, FFactory, check my above post: 1.4GHz Tbird

TunaBoo, get the thunder demo for UT here

Re-reading your post, you do have a vsync problem. Even if you have vsync disabled in the game you have to have it disabled from the display properties.

Best regards,

Zippy,

just a thought.. but i know UT still runs flawlessly at 60fps...

so if other games like q3 and what not are running great at high FPS ... dont worry about UT...

U only need about 40 for it to run good! !

bjc, but it's the premise of it that is upsetting. I mean, if people go and buy a $300 GeForce3 to run their favorite game, UT, and the drivers hold them back to 60fps which they could get on many cards- wtf is the point of that?

Anyway, I checked in the display settings where I could turn off vsync (I checked so many times...) but I can't find it! I see it for OpenGL but not D3D.

Any ideas where it is?

Another weird thing is happening, if I run it in windowed mode, it runs it fine (101.18 fps at 640x480x32- i was stuck at ~60 at this before too). But then I maximize while I'm playing and bam- last second frame rate: 60.

v4.36 already

Like I said, it works great on my Kyro2. I just want to figure out wtf is wrong here!

Hmmm...I got it to work great on my kyro2 by turning off "Wait for VSync" or something in the display settings- before that it was stuck at about 70 (the refresh rate). Perhaps the MX400 sets the refresh rate to 60Hz when gaming? Why wouldn't turning off vsync in the game work though? And why the f' can't I turn off vsync in the drivers?!?!?!?!

Also, when I go to display properties>settings> and click "Advanced" the screen flickers (goes black for a second) then comes back smaller (still 1280x1024, but literally smaller on the screen) and has the advanced screen up.

WTF kinda crackhead drivers are these?
