They have a poster at campus computers at UT-Austin that says they will have it in 4-6 weeks... So buy now, or save alot latter. My roomate asked them about the accitvation code junk, they said all the copies of the cd will have the same code.

Anyone know if these MS Educational Program copies of Windows XP are in fact Windows XP Pro Corporate Edition (0 activation?) I don't want XP with activation for obvious reasons...but I WOULD like a legal copy of corp. edition!!!

Its part of microsoft's plan to rule the world. Give it away at schools cheap, students get used to it, when they graduate it forces prospective emloyeres to purchase it.

And its working.

<< So where do you buy it, campus computers? >>

Yeah, right next door to Moore Hill. My friend went in yesterday and they said that they would hopefully have it by December.

<< Of course this begs the question... Will the UT copies have the copy protection built in to them (switching hardware more than 3 times) since they all may have the same reg key. >>

Major site licenses of any WinXP version does NOT have the activation requirement. I found this out from my supervisor who attended a Microsoft meeting about enterprise licensing. Working for UT does indeed have its perks.

Just a side note, we're not supporting WinXP for quite some time. Might as well stick with Win2k. We're just now getting people on to Win2k.

Knock it off with the crack pipe ... as obviously you are disconnected from the actual/real world. Employers LONG ago standardized on Micro$oft programs. Giving students cheap access to the software enables them to learn the programs which their future employers will likely require experience in using.

I go to UT and I've bought ME, 2000 Professional, NT and 98 SE for $5, and Office XP Professional for $15, .. there's really no limit to how many a student can buy.. only one per visit, but overall not a real limit, but we sign an agreement to if we sell it, we're given a huge fine b/c of UT's license with Microsoft..

There is a limit to how many you can buy; it's only one copy per student. Why do you think they make you fill out that form with all your student info and SSN? If you try to go back and buy a piece of software that you've already bought from them it'll show up on the computer and they'll deny you. If you were allowed to go back as many times as you wanted and purchase the same software for $5 do you know how many people would try to profit from that?

If you fill out a form it souunds like it gets entered into the system later. So make a bunch of trips before they do that ;-)
