Really, really looked forward to it. Loved UT original, still do. At this point I am not liking UT2k3. It's just strange and everybody I have played with concurs. I have had the beta full version for a week with all the maps and still haven't been able to get into it. Maybe given time I will get used to it but initial impressions are dissappointing.

The OFFICIAL product that is in the store is NOTHING like that damn beta. I see why developers get pissed when these things get leaked.

I haven't played either yet!

*cries*

Well, I need to upgrade my comp.. I don't fancy 20fps that much..

But I'm really looking forward to it, looks like a killer game

It's a great game, that´s for sure! Just look at Facing Worlds III - the old UT feel is definately there. However, I fear that dodging and dodge-jumping maneuvers will become rather important in the game, which makes it rather annoying to play for long periods of time (because your fingers hurt). I'd like it even better if Epic would let us bind a key to "dodge", so we don't have to double-press the move buttons like mad. Other than that it's really sweet, by far with the best graphics I've ever seen in any computer game so far.

I think it is freakin awesome. the graphics are really sweet. We ususally have 2 servers running it all the time. One is set to Deathmatch and one is running Bombing run. Servers are called Gamemecca.net. Come have some fun with us!

You just have to keep the laser beam on your enemy long enough for the power bar on the upper right to reach maximum. When it does, a very, very powerful laser beam shoots from a satellite leaving him burnt to a crisp I've been finding it very difficult to do this with moving targets, but can be very effective with obliterating campers

freakin awesome graphics (and yes I know the demo doesn't include full hi-res textures) can't say enough about it. However, gameply is huhhh...bland. Nothing new. Demo is cool to play maybe 2 or 3 times a month..but beyond that there's not much to the game. Of course if UT2003 was released 3 or 4 years ago my opinion wouldn't be what it is today cuz it would be new, innovative, awesome game-play, etc.

well, from someone who has played the original like a psycho for the last 3 years, this thing smokes! I have a radeon 8500, and have almost all the settings on high, and the game runs flawlessly.
The game is so damn good to look at, it's hard concentrating sometimes on gameplay
Maps are much larger, bots can be friggin hard, setting up your teams, and being able to trade players is cool- I love it so far

On the Ion Cannon I think you can only set it off by pointing it at the ground for a few seconds. If its pointed on anything thats moving or you move your mouse around any it will reset. Just point it at the ground away from you(near a enemy) and hold the primary fire untill the beam gets brighter and brighter.

Remember do not aim at something moving and do not move your mouse or it won't charge.

Tried UT2k3 retail on my abit nv133r w/AMD Xp 1800+, 512MB DDR2100, RAID 0'd 40G DX740s and GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64MB. Clearly I need an upgrade.

Levels take a lifetime to load. This is the first game to require RAID 0.

The eye candy is truly impressive. Course with it all turned on I got 9 fps at 1280x1024. (25 or so if no one else was on the screen.) But it was REALLY pretty. Should have seen the slow motion death I had as my pc died trying to do the rag doll physics thing.

When I leave the game it takes FOREVER while my system frees up the memory.

I'd recommend a 2+G processor, 1G of memory, two (or more) nice speedy striped disk drives and some as yet undreamed of video card of the future to run this game.

Hmmmm..... well, let me give some onfo on MY findings....

My sig will show what I have, but to save time....

Athlon TBird 1400 @ 1530-1600
768 MB PC2100
20gb OS drive (XP Pro)
45gb FIle drive (where the game lives) IBM 7200 GXP75
GeForce 4 4600 O/C to 320 Core / 730 Ram (30.82 drivers)

I have this running at 1024 x 1280 x 32 with 4x aa (forced) and 8x anisotropy (forced) on both OpenGL & D3D
All settings in the game are maxed out.... all at highest if it has the option.

Smooth as butter for me..... no problems at all so far.

The only time I see ANY slow downs, was when I tried to go to 1200x1600 with the same settings.

I'll have to run some frames so I can post those... so far I haven't need to... so off I go to find the FPS option for this game.

If anyone happens to know (I'm sure you do) please post or PM me so as to save me some time.

So don't go running out to get raid just yet folks...It may just be my video card, a NON-RAID drive (RAID, in some cases, is SLOWER) & more ram that made my difference.

I'll let you know....

~ Mark

Edit: I'm getting about 40-50 fps with 8 bots in DM
Honestly, I expected it to be higher.... it runs pretty smoothly.

umm you don't need raid to run the game...maybe you have a problem with your setup, im using a single hd and all the maps load in around 30secs

This is the first game to require RAID 0.

Dude you DONT need RAID to play the game. And as far a your system goes it should have pleanty of Balls to run the game at nice frame rates.

Here are my specs
P41.6a @ 2400mhz
Geforce 4 ti 4200 128megs
512megs of PC2700

And it runs great, so you have other problems besides hardware. Do you have FSAA on? if so turn it off.

That was something called a joke.

It is, however, horribly slow loading levels. (Windows Xp boots in about half the time UT takes to load a level. Not kidding.) Also, if you turn on all the eye candy it is very slow at 1280x1024. It runs just fine if you turn it down.

I have been playing the ladders for about 2 days: I have a problem ( only 1 I have encountered so far) on the " Bifrost Bases" Bombing Run match: when I either enter or exit the bases, I get a blackening of the screen for a second or so. Anyone else get this???

Gameplay and graphics are not too bad ....however the netcode sucks IMHO. I have a very good DSL connection and I can't get in game pings under~140.

I have the 198MB "PCGames_UT2003_Preview.avi" (in German). Towards the end, it shows tons of really cool maps. Do all these come in the retail game?

I agree, I too have a very nice cable hookup and I cant find and servers with a ping less them 90 in Quake 3 I find all kinds of servers with pings in the 20s and 30s.

Everything else about the game I love, I hooked on BR

We played the demo at a LAN this weekend and we were still pinging in the 30's and 40's, so something is seriously up w/ that code.

I'm having major issues. I've installed this thing twice and checked everything I can think of and it crashes to the desktop after only a few seconds. The longest I've got it to run is about 3 minutes.

My specs...all running at stock specs/speed.

Epox 8KHA+
Win2K pro w/ SP3
1.33 t-bird
Vantec copper HSF w/ AS3
Gainwaird 64mb Ti4200 (running 30.82 driver)
256mb Crucial PC2100
SB Live X-Gammer (running newest drivers)
DX 8.1b and meet all system requirements.

I tried the no cd fix (didn't work) posted here: http://www.ina-community.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=212982
I've reinstalled my video drivers and tried a Muse XL sound card and now a SB Live! X-Gammer. Still Crashes to Desktop.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game. Still crashes to desktop.
It even crashes when running in safe mode!!!

HELP!!!!
