UT2k3 runs better than Halo

Just wondering if anyone has a resonable explanation why UT2k3 runs perfectly at 90 fps 1024x768x32 with everything high and Halo pukes even at 800x600 with stuff on normal/low, any reason why there would be such a performance dif between them?? And yes I know my 9200 Radeon has a few lil problems with Halo, like subsequent reboots.

Hmm I am not sure.. but I have found that UT2k3 runs good on my PC.. when other games that aren't near as action packed run slower. I have ATI Radeon 8500LE 128MB. I am not the happiest with ATI Radeon graphics cards.. BUT I have only tried this one that I have.

Yep, no AA in Halo at all. Still looks pretty good though and I get good framerates as well. Multiplayer is fun also.

Microsoft ruined Halo when they bought Bungie.

Sure it's a good game.

But the original Halo by Bungie was going to be revolutionary.

Are you comparing framerates in MP UT2K3 vs. SP Halo? That's not an even comparison. But, in general, Halo seems coded for the limits of the Xbox (with a focus on 30fps), so it's not a really appropriate comparison with UT2K3, which was developed for the PC.

Halos a port from console ut2k3 is not. Plus dont use af or aa they dont work with halo and will just slow it down.

You do realize that Microsoft didn't change the game when they bought it from Microsoft? They just bought it so that it would be an XBOX exclusive...

You do realize that Microsoft didn't change the game when they bought it from Microsoft? They just bought it so that it would be an XBOX exclusive...
According to an article I read, the game was changed significantly when it was moved from PC/Mac to XBox.

AF makes a difference in Halo. It's not perfect, but it definately makes a discernable difference.

UT2K3 is a heavily PC optimized piece of code that is constantly updated/improved. Halo was a sloppy port job, done for compatibility, not performance.

Arguable. There were a lot of features promised by Bungie that never made it into the game, primarily because they couldn't be done on the Xbox (consoles suck). Whether or not they would've been cut if the game hadn't gone Xbox first is up to debate, but a lot of stuff from the previews was MIA when the game made it out on Xbox.

Halo is unplayable on my computer even with low details. Kinda caught me off guard cause it's not nearly as graphically impressive as UT2003, which by the way runs smooth with my R9100.

if you plastered bump maps and advanced shaders all over ut2003 then i am sure it would run even slower than halo. likewise, if you run halo in dx7 mode like ut2003 basicly is, halo flys.

UT2k3 is DX8.1 buddy

UT2k3 is an older game, naturally its going to run faster.

Halo runs slow because it is a sloppy port.

According to the devs, it's mainly DX7-level features. Any DX8 shaders are simply more efficient versions of the DX7 ones, and offer no extra functionality and minimal performance gain.

turn off shaders, a person with a 9200 could get 100fps at 1280X1024 at highest settings in halo in DX7 mode. UT2k3 is faster because it uses none or very little shaders.

You're kidding, right? According to what I've read it took significant time to port Halo to the XBox and in the process delayed the PC release by 2 years or so. And how do *you* know what was left out and what wasn't? Your claim that nothing was changed is no more valid than his comment saying M$ ruined Halo when they bought Bungie and given M$'s reputation I'd be more inclined to believe him.

If I were to compare Halo to UT2003, I'd have to say that Halo sucks in every way. I did; however, like the vehicles in Halo and this was the only high point for me. Once UT2004 comes out, complete with vehicles, nothing will beat it.

How can you even compare the two? Halo is a complete single-player game (to go along with a multi player mode), while UT 2k3 is a multi-player only game.

How can UT 2k3 make Halo look like it "sucks in every way" in any category except graphics?
