UT2K3 uses >285mb of ram?

i've only got 256mb of ram in my system, and the computer is constantly swapping with the hard drive under heavey action, as in >than 5 players in view, so out of curiosity, i did a control alt del and looked at the ram usage, 285mb!!!!!!

guess i need 512

is this right, does ut2k3 run better with 512?

with 320mb, and my hard drive set to spin down after 5 minutes, the drive usually stops just over 5 minutes into each round (meaning that EVERYTHING fits in 320). STill, I dont think you should have that much trouble with 256 because some of my friends have 256 and it is very fast on their machines.

yeah i play in 1024X768 32bit is it my gf3 ti200 235/535 slowing it down?

Hi,
You should be alright with 256mb ram, but if you have the money for more then go for it.
***You can never have too much ram***
Luckly for me, when i upgraded my PII 233 to a duron(now xp1800), ram was cheap so brought 768mb mem(512&256)for about £100. still have the ram, and have no trouble whatsosever in anything that is memory intensive.

unless you have the money spare, then dont go out of your way to get more, 256mb should be fine.

I just put another 256mb stick in my comp (512 total now), and load times halved and framerates went up by around 15-25 (different depending on the map). People have been telling me to get more ram for quite a while...guess they were right...

With an Athlon XP 1700 and 256mb PC2100.. and a GF3 Ti200 @ 220/500 (can go higher but I dont bother)..
I just got the game 2 days ago and it's been running just fine at 1024x768 32bit. But if you're asking would an extra 256mb help? Definately.. but you probably don't *need* it

Straight from the "Release Notes"

Unreal Tournament 2003's performance is highly dependent on the amount
of RAM you have in your machine, and the amount of memory that is
available. Machines with less memory will access their hard disk more
frequently to load data, which causes sporadic pauses in gameplay. Thus,
if you have a 128 MByte (or less) machine, you should make sure that
you don't have other unnecessary programs loaded in memory when playing
Unreal Tournament 2003.

How the game will perform under different RAM conditions:

* 64 MByte or less: lots of swapping

* 128 MByte: minimal swapping with default settings

* 256 MByte: might swap in rare cases with highest texture detail

* 512 MByte or more: shouldn't swap

thanks man, i figured as much, i exhibit situaltion 3 -256mb of ram, high detail, swapping occurs with lots of action and detail
