Move on to what? The key to UT2K4 is the extensive mods and add-ons that exist. Look at the HL engine...still going strong.

great deal . . . . ignore the '. . .old . . ' comment. Seems most of thenotebook's comments support the user rating recorded so far . . . .

HOT! Best game ever! (No need for mods, vanilla with a little UTComp and you have a perfect game.)

so is there going to be a UT2005?

Onslaught was a great improvement and reason to buy 2K4 over 2K3, so hopefully they can up the ante again.

I've been a member of the original Unreal Tournament ('99--shouldn't have to say '99) community for years, and I just wanted everyone to know that the people who started playing UT back in '99 think that UT 2004 is far inferior to the original in terms of its game play. If you've never tried the original and wonder what UT 2004 is missing and why it isn't as popular and doesn't seem to have as much staying power as the original was, give it a try.

However, I might go pick this up since I'll want to try it once I have a new computer, and it would be nice to have a reason to build CTF maps again. The general consensus is that UT 2003 was horrible and intolerable whereas UT 2004 is merely tolerable. Some UT clanners did migrate to UT 2004. I'll have to check up on the status and health of the UT 2004 CTF community before making a purchasing decision. For $9.99 I'd definitely get it (what I paid for UT GOTY back in Jan 2001--best $10 ever spent).

Okay WhipperSnapper, you and your "elite" reviewing partners, just stay wth the original. Keeps the 2004 servers unclogged for those that like change...

what is the point of your post anyway...this is a hot deal thread...

2k4 never developed much of an active CTF community. Onslaught is the only mod with more than a handful of clans playing, and really at this point most of the ladders are dead.
It is to bad, epic could not do what valve did with counter strike, and just port the UT 99 to a new engine

I started playing UT99 about 4 years ago, I thought it was the best game ever, until UT2004 came out. When you do try out UT2004, give it a fair shot, the game play is far better than UT99 (imho). I tried UT2003, but I just did not have the hardware to support anymore than 30 or so FPS, so I didn't play it.

I wouldn't expect to find too much for UT2004 CTF, try TDM.

Haha Yeah, I still admit it... I play the UT classic! I use to host a server. It really is in some ways better then any of the newer UT games. Ever since atari came into the picture it's been FUBAR...

Altho, I did find a better game... Call of duty.

i played UT when it first came out in 99 and loved it to death. 2003 was a big disappointment but what do you expect when it was just a quicky to get everyone off their back about the next one cause they were taking to long. 2003 was not a finished game. it was something for the people to play until they finished 2004. which IMO is sweet. onslaught is the only thing i play on it and i switch back to the first one for everything else.

went to half.com and couldn't find it........need the dvd version for a late xmas gift anyone know where i can find it cheap?

Yup. That's all we ever wanted. When people saw the monstrousity that was UT 2003, the amount of disappointment in the UT community was tremendous. Have to give Valve credit--they figured it out--don't mess with a winning formula that has good chemistry. All we wanted in a UT 2003/2004 were the exact same game play but with better graphics, better netcoding, and maybe some more game types. But nooo...they had to go add super-duper jumps and garbage to it.

All versions on Half

I played UT almost every day from the day the demo came and for the next 2.5 years. Like many fans, I was disappointed in 2003. Then when the demo for 2004 came out, I could not get it to run stable on my system so I was afraid to buy the game. I may break down and buy it now, better late then never.
