Sh!t, this game is freaking AWESOME!!!! Me and my roomies are having a blast with it on the LAN. Onslaught is sweet! All we've played so far is Deathmatch for a bit then Onslaught for hours! Haven't even tried the CTF map yet.

The vehicles are great. Very good physics, very intuitive and simple controls. Lots of great gags too. I got run over by one of the hovercraft things with the two propellers once and it showed my head get lopped off and shoot like 100 feet in the air, then my body slowly fell to its knees and then fell over. I almost fell off my chair laughing.

ROADKILL!!!

You must have very low standards

You gotta give it more than 5 minutes. Heck it took us almost an hour to fully understand Onslaught and how to play it properly.

CARJACK!!!!!!!!!
The physics suck, the weapons still suck, and the fruity pebble colors don't do it for me. Back to Desert Combat 0.7 for me.

HIT AND RUN!!!!!!!

You just probby got wtfpwned a lot. This game is amazing. Ut2k3 was damn good (though I missed domination - but I absolutely loved bombing run) and UT was awesome. Sorry, but the UT series are just plain fun. You're just crapping cause' you're mad the populations in your crappy games are down...

The whole point of UT is that it's fast.. but for you that complain the speed is too fast, play on a server with a .90 multiplier. I personally love the fast speed... With speeds like that, I can frag 1000 people an hour and take out more aggression in less time. It's just plain more efficient.

Heh they tried to give it an original UT feel with the menu music (I loved it!) but the gameplay is obviously still UT2k3. My $39.99 copy of that sits unused while my free Creative bundled UT gets all the gameplay still.

I wish they mixed in more of the UT weapons instead of keeping the majority of the new ones. I guess I'll live with it.

Agreed, I played this demo for two hours last night and didn't realize how much time has pasted. This could be the game of the year for 2004.

(1) Where did I ever say anything about speed?
(2) I'm actually quite good at UT. I played the original for hours on end, but UT2003 and now UT2004 suck donkey balls.
(3) I haven't played Tribes or Tribes 2 in years
(4) I still play BF1942 and Desert Combat b/c the games are fun, the gameplay is there, the weapons are both realistic and well balanced and it is just downright fun.

Amen brother.

UT2K3 was like playing Quake. It completely lost the feel of the original UT. Haven't tried UT2K4 yet and I'll go into it with an open mind since I really want to like it but its really going to have to be fantastic for me to buy it. I certainly don't want it sitting on my shelf alongside UT2K3 which I tried hard to like for about a week until I gave up.

I also was not fragbait on UT. Usually #1 or 2 whenever I played so I didn't hate UT2K3 bc I sucked at it.

NFS4--I really enjoy UT2k3 and BF1942 bores me stiff. When realism involves driving a tank for 5minutes across the desert just to find someone to fight, you can keep your realism. We've all heard your opinion, please spare us the thread crapping.

brxndxn--I'm also a fan of BR in UT2k3. I was actually in an iBR clan for awhile before switching over to NW and freelancing. I don't know if you've heard of HPG, but if you play low-grav 135% speed you may have.

Onslaught is indeed a ton of fun. By the time the full version comes out people are going to absolutely master that demo map and I don't doubt there will be some fun marathon matches to be played. Not only am I one of the few people who plays UT2k3 regularly, I'm one of the even fewer who enjoys low-grav. So, I feel like I'm relearning a game I just played now that there is no low-grav. I'm still getting used to the weapons, though my old reliables the Lightning Gun and Rocket Launcher are still around. I find the jagged Shock balls a bit harder to hit, but it's probably because I left those goofy default crosshairs. I've got to switch that to a little yellow dot.

I've put aside my UT2k3 nick and I'm playing as [ATOT]CChaos if anyone wants to say Hi.

Finally, is it incredibly cruel timing that the first full day many people will have to play this, Saturday, is Valentine's? My wife will probably make an attempt on my life this weekend.

EDIT: Almost forgot:

VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER!

From the little bit of assault I played last night, it's MUCH faster. After playing DC every night for the last two months, UT2k4 is like having a heart attack while doing 200miles an hour in a lamborghini that's on fire.

It's still pretty fun though. I wish there was a way to snipe off the people on miniguns easier, it's pretty easy to pin down a team with them if you're good enough. Not too bad if you're defending, but it sucks if you're attacking. I can't see myself buying it, I have way more fun playing DC (but that might be due to the guys I play with)

Played it last night with my buddy. He friggin housed me at Onslaught. The vehicle concept is cool, but I didn't really like the vehicles they had. Except for the Hellbender. That was pretty cool.

The top 3 things I love about Unreal Tourney (the whole series)...

1. Never have to reload... unlike every other FPS series where every time I die, its due to reloading.

2. Simple button mappings... forward, backward, sides, shoot, use, jump. No need for use/open/zoom being on 3 different buttons, no crouch/prone silliness, no useless inventory items that you HAVE to select to use... etc.

3. The starting weapon is reasonably powerful and not a death sentance unless you get another one--also unlike quake3, it doesen't require 10 minutes of keeping your crosshair on someone and 4 reloads to kill them. So I guess semi-realistic damage/kill times go here too.

The new turrets and vehicles make the game a bit too Halo-y for me, but I'm sure that's what they were going for, and I'll get used to it. skarydrunkguy is on the prowl.

I haven't installed it yet....no time till the weekend.

But I heard the textures are only at half resolution compared to the retail game to make download smaller.

Is that true?

The UT2K4 Demo screams on my system looking forward to late night frag sessions. Oh BTW, if anyone here is a subscriber at Gamespot don't forget to take advantage of Ebgames Gamespot members only 10% off coupon. I saved a ton of money preordering, UT2K4, Halflife 2,doom 3 and Painkiller.

The readme says demo textures are half detail compared to retail game for smaller download.

Anyways I couldn't wait till the weekend and played it for half an hour and so far it KICKS ASS!!!!

Runs silky smooth at 1280x1024x32 (LCD monitor) on my P2-2.4 with 512megs with 9700 PRO.

I can't wait till full game ships.

you normally double-click .bat files to execute them (they run in DOS/window) but you should open the .bat file in an editor beforehand to make sure it's not doing anything malicious first.

he, about time I got rid of that Xmas icon.

Yes the Dell (Samsung? Hitachi?) monitor is very nice.

Though I wish there was an option to display other resolutions without stretching/distortion. Some 1280x1024 LCD monitors allow you to display centered 1024x768 with black borders rather than stretching it to fit the whole screen which distorts it a bit.
