Every time I reboot my computer I have to re-enter my CD Key to play the game. I tried everything that Steam support has suggested and still no fix. It wasn?t even worth the $9.99 I paid for it. IMO , Epic has successfully managed to drive away all the hardcore UT2004 fans and failed miserably with UT3. I?m so bummed.

Thanks for killing my Game Epic & thanks for the wonderful "CD Key" bug! What a bunch of Wankers!

dude, join the forums and learn how to solve your problem - you officially suck

Heh, the UT3 forums suck. They ban you for being "negative" about the quality of UT3. Screw them, I won't give them my money then until they fix the UI and bugs in gameplay.
Game sucks.

i don't think they will, it is more fluent than was before. granted its like a console UI but it is better than when it first came out

I did join the UT forum to try and solve my problem but none of their solutions worked. It was a waste of time. I only found others bitching about the same bug. Funny how far more ppl agree with my opinion of the game even in the short time this post has been alive. I stand by my original message, UT3 = lame duck

I did the Steam 10 buck deal over the weekend too. I knew that a + sign next to the server population wasn't humans. I feel extremely offended that I even bought the game. But than again I thought the game looked really sexy with all of the settings on high + Anti Alasing. Now I find out that this game took a dump just like the fan base did in the transformation from Crysis --> Crysis Wars. It's time to go back to the sentinel mod gaming server. Jez do I miss that! It's been 3 long years!

Hardly

don't even try to blaspheme. UT2k4/2k3 is NOTHING like classic UT. UT3 is more like it in every way.

Honestly, if epic would just update the engine to handle better graphics, make some new maps, etc. thats all they would need to do for ut4. what they should have done with 2k3

I like UT3. I mean, it's not the best game ever, but there's something to be said for old-school hard-core action in this day-and-age of TF2 and Counter-Strike. Every new game these days has classes, complex weapon pre-loads, and whatever... there's a certain welcome simplicity to having to go hunt down a rocket launcher or flak cannon spawn to gear up.

Think about how I feel. I bought the game two days after it was released back in November of 2007, dropping $57 after taxes on the Collector's Edition. My goal was to quickly produce some custom CTF maps (remakes of my UT99 CTF maps) in the hopes that by getting them out early they would become standard custom maps. About two months later I concluded that the game had low player counts and was more or less stillborn and lost all interest in finishing a remake of my best UT99 CTF map for UT3. It's a shame since I've got it all cut out and I've finished about 90% of the texturing and much of the lighting. Now it's just sitting on the cutting room floor.

Unreal Grrls is about the only active CTF server. But her server must be running on a Pentium III

EDIT for spelling

This thread is a good indicator of what people think of the game. If anyone cared about UT3, this thread would be a 20 page flame fest ;^)

I figured it wasn't worth the effort I could type quite a lot about why UT3 is my favorite of the series and how amazing of a game it is, but it's been done before and nobody's opinion is going to change. The game lacks players and has a sub par menu. The gameplay itself is more entertaining to me than TF2 or CoD4 or L4D.

I love the gameplay don't get me wrong, but the UI, the console-sized messages (giant letters BETRAYED) that take up your whole screen and make it hard to aim), the lack of server browser available in game; all these ruined it for me.
I thought for sure "this game is going to own, I will buy this without looking at the reviews. What a mistake!!!
Won't do it again with them.

The sad thing is, I probably will. I so want a new UT that I can enjoy, and will probably preorder again, just like I did UT3 :^/

You make a great point. But if you really enjoy making maps and if you want to do that for your future. Any creation you make won't be a loss since it's going in your portfolio.

I'm just an amateur mapper. My UT99 maps pale in comparison, in terms of detail and eye candy, compared to what guys like Hourences, Angel Mapper, and Frag 'n' Brag can put out, so I don' t have any vocational future or interest in mapping. My only interest is to enhance the online multiplayer game and to take pleasure from seeing people play my maps online. So, it's kind of silly if no one plays the game (and especially if no one plays on custom map servers).

Yup. Remember, the UT99 pro community liked the game play of the Beta Demo. They were ready to move to UT3 even though they thought it was inferior to UT99. Then when everyone found out that the Retail Release = Beta Demo, they lost interest. They continue to play UT99 CTF 5v5 pug matches and to organize MLUT (Major League UT) tournaments to this day.

What I find most bothersome is that I get the impression that Epic has no clue as to why UT3 failed and why the original UT99 was such a smashing success. No clue at all.

GGs, even if it was short tonight.

I've been meaning to jump in there for a while, just kinda forgot, & i prefer UTComp based 1v1/TDM, so i tend to ignore most vanilla servers.

I'll jump in once in a while though more if i can.

It was good seeing you there n7. I hope you stop in again :^)

I'm not a big fan of UTComp, as the bright skins make everyone look the same. Also, the hitsounds make it too much like an arcade game to me. Yea, yea, they can be turned off client side, but then you're at a huge disadvantage against people that play with them on. I don't mind it as much for 1V1, or TDM, but FFA I prefer a stock setup.

I hate the fact UT3 was given the Gears of War makeover. Seriously, what is with huge character models?

I hate the fact UT3 was given a bullshit story.

I hate the fact that everything is bump mapped into oblivion. It looks awesome but for some reason I feel like it wasn't done with taste, the scenes are so busy and complicated.

The music blows. Menu's are horrible. The guns look like ass.

I fired up UT99 with a friend two days ago, man I love the menus. Looks like a goddamn operating system. We played Face CTF with a bunch of bots. What a mind blowing game.

I think someone said it best before me, its sad that probably not even Epic knows why
it was so successful with UT99, but damn did they get all the important things right.

for UT, you are officially dead.

At launch it wasn't very good, but right now I'm having a blast with custom content and Invasion modes and occasional but superb death matches with actual players (most servers are filled up with bots as the UT3 players know by now). It's a shame, but it's understandable, Epic did let it die during a good year, if not more, and eventually realized that they created UT3 and that they had to support it to make it better. I do thank them for having created that great patch, although certainly late in the game's life (it's sad though, that games today don't have a long life, contrarily to the games from the 8 to 32 bit eras). They could have made UT4 and forget about UT3 entirely, like EA do constantly with their stupid sports titles, almost one each year, if not actually one each year indeed, but instead they (Epic) decided to support it and give it some boost, I appreciated.

Many other games need such refreshing treatment (I'm thinking BioShock amongst others, also Mass Effect, which only received one DLC, and a very insignificant one at that, but at least the main game is pure genius, except for the convulsed and abysmal selling/buying menu interface, no items organization what...so...ever). Anyway, I like UT3, it's not UT99 or UT2004, but it certainly does the job right now, there's also a great modding community for it, some superb custom models out there, and maps, and weapons, and mutators, and all on the official forums too.

Yeah, I remember UT99 demo servers were filled with people (the only time where I actually played UT), but that was a long long time ago.
