Greetings Group

Well, I know I'm late with UT# but to make a long story short I bought it last week and am loving it...at least the single player part.

Why is there not any on-line play like before??/ I can't freaking believe it, there is really not much at all going on.

At first I thought it was 'cause of the holidays but now when I check every nite it as slow as molasses and I live in the So. Cal. area where you would expect huge crowds

Make sure your ports on your firewall are set up properly. I used to see a fraction of the servers that were there on CS:S because of my firewall. Try disabling it entirely and seeing if any more pop up.

Well, let me explain a little bit more. There are some CTF servers but as an example, if there are 87 CTF-servers on line only two or three would be playing, also, thats pretty much the same with all of the on-line games in UT3.

There are servers but nobody's on them.

hmm I was afraid that may be the case. I loved the original one but the second one was bad enough I skipped on the third installment after I tried the demo and it seemed more of the same. I had hoped this one went back to being more like the first one!

The game sold something like 30k copies. Hardly anything. Maybe they shouldn't have had it come out at the same time as Crysis and CoD4. I was actually considering getting it, but there were some things I didn't like (demo map for VCTF sucks, vehicles feel odd).

The game sucks. Most peoples opinions range from ambivalence to disgust, with a minority that enjoy the game. Epic managed to alienate aficionados from GOTY to UT2k4. That must have taken some heroic planning and execution to make a game that no former players enjoy.

Sad to hear. I've been wanting to pick it up and still might do so, but only for the Mapping possibilities. Especially with the Collectors edition which has Editing VTMs(Video Training Modules) that cover Normal Mapping and the newer Shaders used in the UT3 Engine.

UT3's gameplay feels almost identical to UT2004. It seems more like a graphical update rather than a new game to me.

That's not really bad thing though...

I thought it was much more like UT99 that 2004. Removal of shields, adreneline, and stronger weapon damage made it feel like the original. I personally like UT3 much more than 2004. UT3's biggest flaws are it's UI and lack of content. The mod community can hopefully remedy that.

It has sold a lot more than that. 34,000 was just in November only in the US. It also didn't come out till the 19th. So that number really only represents one whole week of sales.

So it's probably sold a couple of hundred thousand copies by now. Not great, but there are some people playing it.

It also sold about 100k units on the PS3.

You've got a point there. I haven't played UT99 for years so I forgot how that one played.

It still has double damage though, doesn't it? I remember seeing it during one of the SP capture the flag missions.

Even after 3 years, WoW outsold UT3 every week since it was released. So did one of the Sims game.

To be fair, that could be said of many games.

Sadly, in spite of it being a pretty decent game actually, with very enjoyable gameplay, there aren't many people playing.

I do play when i can though.

Xfire: n7dgs

There is absolutely nothing wrong with UT3, anyone saying so hasn't played it. The problem is, TF2 stole it's thunder, plain and simple. This is another case of what happens when you ignore your release date and try and go up against everything. Releasing at Christmas is the stupidest mistake so many developers make, they force people to choose, because you only have so much time in a day.

I think the UT3 community will slowly grow once people get around to playing everything that came out in 2007, but it is going to be awhile. It's a solid game and runs quite fluidly.

if you browse some of the ut fan sites like beyondunreal seems plenty of people are playing it. I will find out for myself soon.

BS, whole books could be written on what's wrong with UT3. I preordered the game, and according to xfire, I've only played 33 hours. Why? Because the game isn't fun. Most of those 33 hours were spent tweaking my setup. I bet I don't have 15 hours of actual gaming. My favorite of the series so far is UT2k4, but I'd rather play any version other than UT3. The only game I can even tolerate is IG DM, and I only play that so I don't feel like I wasted $60. I like 2k4 IG better.

As far as TF2 stealing UT3's thunder goes...That's a red herring. Why didn't UT3 steal TF2's thunder? Everybody points to other games, and says they're the reason UT3 isn't being played. Why aren't the other games being neglected for UT3? It doesn't take a marketing expert to figure that one out...
