One of the reasons I am not buying it is lack of things like Assault.
Also I didnt care for the changes made to Domination in 2003 and 2004.
And DeathMatch is so damn boring after 9 years I cant buy any game just for that.

I might be crazy but I thought the best gameplay was Unreal with Bots or Unreal Tournament.
Every generation that passes brings worse gameplay and prettier colors & shapes.
If I wanna see something pretty I'll watch Fantasia 2000 or the new Star Wars movies.
But video games are for PLAYING.

I am very unhappy with ut3, its essentially the same game as the original going way back, its just looks better, same feel, same speed, same gameplay, same tricks, nothing here to look at, i got bored after a few sessions because i already loggen in hours and hours of game play in ut 2004 and its been sitting on my HDD uselessly ever since...play GOW, COD4, HL2EP2, or whatever other shooter you got but not this remake

I loved assault. That's pretty much all I played in the UT99 days.

The day someone mods in (or the developers themselves) a good Invasion mode I'll play UT3 again.

Right now it's sitting in its retail box, un-installed. I'm playing UT2004 instead (Invasion, mostly).

what did you want them to change? cod4 is a remake as well when you put it that way. UT is about hardcore fragging not the storyline or some new gimmicky gun.

The server interface (in the demo, at least) was mediocre but still usable, and I have seen worse in the past. You would expect this game to sell a fair number of copies from just the UT name alone.

One of the problems is that the UT franchise started going downhill with the release of UT 2003, which turned off a great many UT99 fans. UT 2004 was somewhat successful in its own right, but it had nothing near the online success of UT99. Then many UT 2004 players disliked the UT99 feel to UT3, so UT3 starts out with the franchise having lost many UT99 fans (courtesy of UT 2003/2004) and its having lost some UT 2004 fans (because the game play felt more like UT99).

The issue of the hardware requirements didn't help the game on the PC, either. Combine all of that with the awful Demo and the awful user interface and server browser, and you have a recipe for a game that doesn't sell well and that ends up having low online player counts in spite of the quality and fun factor of its game play.

You can sometimes catch me playing Invasion Monster Mash RPG at the Clan Death Warrant server. Come check it out if you like Invasion RPG. The server has an excellent community and many people join Ventrilo and chat and try to play it as a team.

It's true that the existing community had become somewhat fragmented, but this is pretty extreme. My brother has the game and was saying that there were two non-vehicle CTF games (a mode that used to be a highlight of the UT series) running at peak hours last weekend. I've seen better activity than that in some old games where you have to coordinate direct IP games off forums because there is no master server anymore.

As for the hardware requirements, they are actually quite light compared to many other games from the last year or two. This game is refreshingly well optimized and scalable given the quality of its graphics, and the first such game I've seen in quite some time.

I was saying the same thing earlier. Almost any sequel FPS has essentially the same kind of multiplayer as the preceding game did. CS: Source is hardly any different from the original CS, and look how many people are playing that.

In fact, as WhipperSnapper said, they probably changed small (but ultimately important) things in the gameplay too much between different UT versions.

What would you like to see UT99 have that all the other UT games have? it just seems everyone likes the 99 version the best, which i also do but still play UT3, so if UT99 could have anything that thee others have, what would it be?

I liked UT99 the most. Never could get into 2k3 and 2k4 although I put in major hours with them. These days 2k4 is still installed on my PC so I can play Faces Classic every now and then. There were tons of UT2k4 servers up this weekend and my m8 was complaining cause he could barely find a good DM server for UT3. He was playing the hell out of vehicle crap, thats right I said it... CRAP... all weekend.

I hate to herold in the doom and dispare for computer gaming. But it seems that the developers are making a mass exodus to consoles. UT3 is doing ok on the PS3 my other clan m8 has it and his only complaint is that there are a lot of mutators on when he finds a server. They should have made cross platform competition for UT3 gaming. It might have made a difference. The content IS cross platform I hear.

If you wanna play online, all of them.
I'd recommend getting the latest version anyway. It doesnt cause problems and lets you play without the disc. If I'm not mistaken it also put in plenty of new maps and game modes.
Then there is the community expansion pack. Lots of good stuff. I only had two of them.
Did they make any more?

I duno: maybe the inclusion of a REAL story mode would have been something fresh and new ? just throwing a wild one out there

CTF UT3 still has that great action that came from UT99 - i know there are lots of other types of play, but i started off on CTF way back when, and i still enjoy the run/escape, catch, score, defend play the best ...i just wish i could get use to my new mouse, it makes a TOTAL different feel to it -argh!

EDIT: o btw, if you don't like some of your Unreal Tournament 3 files in your 'My Documents' folder, add -nohomedir to the shortcut command line, and before you start the game up, manually cut & paste the corresponding FILES, not folders, into their proper directory, some files will need to be overwritten. If you do not cut and paste them first, the game will ask you for your CD key and if u still continue on after entering your cd key without cut & pasting your files, you'll have re-setup everything again, but that would be a big waste of time

enjoy!

Aside from it's other problems, UT3 is just too graphically demanding for an online FPS. In single player games drops to like 20fps are tolerable but not in an online game. TF2 and COD4 run much better on older machines. CS1 is STILL the most popular fps in the world (yes it's still more popular than CS:S) due in large part to the fact that you can run it on practically any machine.

I've re-installed UT3 to see and experienced the new changes made by the new patch. I must say that I do not regret it. And now I can safely say that the Bots are fun to play with now, they are much more responsive, more effective at doing what they have to, and they respond to my orders very well, much better than before. I've tried a 16 Vs 16 match in Warfare and their control for the vehicles has been drastically improved. I haven't seen a single Bot getting stuck for more than two seconds. When they do get stuck they fevise their route entirely this time.

That new patch adds life to UT3 for me (since I mostly play off-line). I highly recommend to everyone playing UT3 to update it, and to everyone who like me un-installed it before to simply re-install it because it's just worth it now. It's amazing how can a patch change things enough to make a game seem "meh" to be "nice".

By the way, since I never played it that much until now, I'd like to take this opportunity to ask to you guys if you can tell me if there's a way to change my default (preferred) team color? Right now it's set to Red, and since I am so used to set it to Blue in UT2004 I'd like to do the same in UT3, is it possible to make it so I always (when possible) spawn in Blue team for team-based modes?

Thanks.

Wouldn't much of that depend on your hardware? I play at 1280 x 1024 with an 8800 GT and a lowly Athlon 4400 (at 2.4 Ghz) and I haven't had any problems.
