I've been fighting off a stomache flu for the last couple days, friday, saturday and today...I'm not crapping my guts out 8 times a day anymore...but it's still not...um..normal if you catch my drift. I've taken Imodium...how long does it take before all that stuff starts working normally again? I"ve never had a stomache flu in my life so I'm not sure if I should go to the hospital or something.....and how long before I'll actually be able to eat normally again?? I hate not eating...but every time I do it feels like the food just sits in my stomache and turns to lead

I don't have insurance that's the problem, i'm trying to avoid the doctor if at all possible. I honestly don't even have a primary care physician. I haven't been to the doctor in 6 years.

Drink a lot of Gatorade...seriously. Replenish the liquids you're losing.

Gatorade is good, so is cranberry juice.

I haven't been to a doctor in years. Probably at least 5-6 years. I rarely ever get sick.

eat food. really spicy and oily foods. then keel over...

actually my roommate did that after recovering from a stomach flu, and he really almost did keel over.

drink fluids, avoid foods that will upset your stomach. eat saltines, oatmeal, drink lots of water and hope u dont sh!t ur intestines out!

Pepto works for me. Drink as muc as you can, too. As others mentioned, Gatoraid is good.

water, lots.

No Pepto, you want to get whatever is making you sick out, not keep it in.

according to immodium.com crapping your guts out is actually just a side-effect, it's not getting anything out of you

Yeah, but they have a business to run, and it depends on getting people to buy Immodium.

Semantics only: there is no such thing as "stomach flu"
not to say you arent afflicted by a GI virus...

Ginger ale (flat and room temp), ginger snap cookies, BURNT toast (charcoal).
Immodium, electrolyte replacement. Mixing a little gatorade with flat ginger ale also helps.

The unpleasant reaction of a virus invading GI tract lining is simply a defense mechanism of immune system sloughing off the first "infected" layer of cells. You WANT to rid yourself of it...

I used to get the stomach flu about once a year since I was young (haven't gotten it for about 3-4 years now though).

There really isn't much you can do other than just ride it out and let it pass. If it gets worse after 24 hours I would seriously consider seeing a physician (mine was gone within 24 hours everytime). You'll feel kinda weak a day or two after (and you won't really want to eat much), but you'll level back out and be ok not long after.

I wouldn't eat much solid food, but try to eat something and drink quite a bit. Popsicles and 7-Up were favorites of mine because they don't taste bad on the way back up. Oddly, normal fruit juices didn't sit well (would usually cause me to vomit more).

I would basically just lie around the whole day with a bowl close by, and sleep as much as I could.

I'm not sure what it was I was getting, but I always just referred to it as the stomach flu. It didn't seem to be contagious, as I didn't catch it from anyone, nor did anyone seem to get it after I did.
