V3 3000 or Inno3d Tornado?

I am building my new system with a Duron 650 and MSI KT7 motherboard, 128MB PC133 RAM. The only question I need answered is which video card should I purchase? I surf the web, word process, etc. My son plays games like Driver and NFS High Stakes. Which of these two cards would best suite my needs? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

well, the 2 cards you posted are in slightly different categories, pricewise. However, for ~$125, you can get one of the GTS-MX's, they're darn good.

the V3 has glide support, which would help many racing games, including NFS:HS. Driver is D3d only, so the MX would be better suited for that one.

Overall, both cards will do a nice job. If you have a large monitor, you may appreciate the better RAMDAC of the V3 in high resolutions while *not* gaming.

I'm using currently a V3-3000AGP and am quite happy with it. I have a 19&quot;-monitor and the vid-card gives me an excellent picture. As for gaming, this card is still a good perfomer as long as you stay in low resolutions (<1024x768). But with a fast CPU like the Duron you'll be able to play even in this resolution.

The Inno3d Tornade is a Gf2 MX right?

I'd go for that. I'm not sure about the 2d quality of GF2 MX's but I'd say they are just average. The Inno3d Tornado is significantly faster than the V3, has 32bit color, T&amp;L, etc...

However, I think Voodoo3 cards are pretty good at games like Driver and NFS games.

I would go with a GF2MX(the Tornado board). I'm running a GF DDR which is a bit faster at higher resolutions, but not much, and I run NFS:HS at 1600x1200 without any noticeable slowdown or 800x600 with 2x2 FSAA enabled, a feature not available on the V3. The 2D quality on the boards aren't bad overall, most of them you would be hard pressed to tell the difference on up to 1024x768 or 1280x960 while running desktop applications.

Hardware T&amp;L, 32bit color support, large texture support, FSAA, the GF2MX shouldn't be compared to the V3, they are at least a generation apart. For basic 2D desktop applications odds are that a basic Rage128 for ~$50 will do you just as well as either of the other boards, for 3D the Tornado handily bests the V3 in every area save Glide support.
