V5 or GF2 GTS?

Honestly though, a GF2MX w/ 32 MG SDRAM would even show a noticeable performance upgrade over the V5 5500.

I assume that you meant that the GF2 MX will not show a performance upgrade but simply worded your sentence wrongly.

Go and buy GF2GTS, and you will see a huge improvement, at least nVidia still exists ......I had the V4500, and it sucked ass, now i have Elsa Gladiac GF2 GTS 64MB DDR, and the card is damn fast (not like GF3 but hey)...so if you wanna buy a good card go with nVidia one it is highly supported with drivers every 2/3 months...

Here we go again! I went from a Geforce2 GTS 32MB DDR to the V5. If you care about image quality stick with the V5. I had to turn the Geforce up to 32-bit color and 4X FSAA and it still did not look as good as the V5 with the 24-bit hack and 2X FSAA. I run my video at 1024 x 768 and under these circumstances the V5 is faster than the Geforce2 GTS! Have you tried the Beta 8 6000 drivers with HSR? Gi4, the V4 cannot compare to a V5 in terms of speed or quality.

Heehee, I have to agree with you this is not true.

Original poster- I would say the GTS is more "future proof" in that nVidia is still making drivers, which may address game incompatibility and performance issues as new games are released.

The GTS should be faster than the V5 in general, and at the $100 video card level I don't think you get to have ultimate image quality/speed/FSAA/feature set. (otherwise the card would cost more)

Have you tried up dated drivers for the V5.
some have had good luck with 1.04.01 beta, which may allow you to hold off on a video card upgrade. But for the money, you can't lose switching the the GF2 GTS.

I've got the Wicked3D drivers right now. I only think they work for CS. I also have the latest ones from 3dfx.com.

as long as your card works well now, i wouldnt get a new one...i would say wait and see what new games are going to need then buy a new card once you cant play games well

I am using win98se, i have the 1.04.01 betas from 3dfx, no problems. I would use them also if I were you, but which is best depends on your system and which games you play.
