Since im the "rook" at work and its been a while since I've been away with the girlfriend, I'm trying to plan something within the confines of August and the eastern seaboard.

I live in Long Island, so we'd like to drive to where ever it is as opposed to flying somewhere with the dog. We have looked at the dog vacation sites and they basically list dog friendly hotels and what not, but not what us humans can do for fun near these places.

So if you have any good short vacation ideas of places within a 6-8 hour drive of NYC let me know. I could figure out the dog part of it, I'm just mostly stuck on where to go. I'm not opposed to renting a vacation house either.

and heres a pic of the dog coming with us. Remember bulldogs sink in water........

i guess sending the dog over the falls in a barrel is out?

find a dog sitter and fly you and the GF to hollywood beach florida... relax on the boardwalk and play on the beach.
most hotels have an airport shuttle, so you dont even have to rent a car.

Seriously?
Dude, put the dog in a kennel or get a dog sitter. Spend some quality time with your GF, without having to worry about where you can go or what you can do with a dog.

A .22 for the dog part? dude turn that .22 on yourself b/c you're wasting the air i breathe.

Trust me I'd love to fly to florida, put the dog with a friend, and just get wasted on the beach. But we cant, and its personal.....so lets move on and just help me with a decent road trip idea

You asked, you got answers. A logical person would not sacrifice his vacation for a pet (especially if you are low on the totem poll and vacations are hard to get).

Ah, nowhere did you state there were OTHER reasons (you mention personal reasons, but mention also renting a vacation house so one would not think financial reasons).

I can't suggest anything in the NE, all my vacationing goes west or south so I can escape the go go go of the NE.

i mentioned it after the barrage of crappy responses. I forget that with these forums people would rather try to be comedians then actually help. So i added it in a later response.

Yes money isnt an issue, its other things. Nothing serious just cant do the Jamaica or Bermuda trip right now.

I have a dog named Stella too, but she is a black lab.

We take our dog everywhere. In November we went to Gatlinburg, TN and rented a cabin in the mountains. We ended up going to Asheville, NC and found a dog friendly hotel. Asheville is very dog friendly with a lot of dog parks and restaruants that allow dogs.

6-8hours from new york. You could always hit new hampshire (white mountain area) or maine. There are some beautiful mountains you could lightly hike around. Plus some shallow rivers so stella could splash around a little but not be over her head. Plus it might be a little cooler up there as well.

i was going to recommend that. lots of good hiking there. Last time I was there, it seemed like almost everyone there brought along their dog. If I had a dog, I'd love to bring him with my on our vacations

Nice dog! I don't know the area but have fun and keep her out of the heat. We travel as much as we can with our Jack Russell. Our next door neighbors are awesome and take him for the long trips. They do a lot of console gaming and movie watching. The middle cushion on the couch is his, even guests leave that one for him

From what I've been told, all Westin hotels are pet-friendly. That might apply to W hotels too. So basically just drive someplace that has one of those.

I'd second Bar Harbor, ME, although I haven't been there in years.
