For those talking about long hair... I love my Dyson for that. Take out a nickel to unlock the end cap, and slide the roller out. Run a razor blade across the roller and cut the hair off. Slide things back into place and all is good.

The canister I take apart occasionally and blow all the bits out with an air compressor.

Seems to pick up everything I need it to. Have had it for a few years now with no issues. may need a new roller soon, but I am sure Amazon has them...

A whopping $12. Easy peasy. And I believe we gave something like $250 brand new at Best Buy during a sale they had.

......And we've been through Windtunnels and other brands. The Miele is our only choice now. And I doubt our Twist will suffer any failures any time soon. Solid, fairly quiet for a vacuum, bags aren't horrendous in price, esp. from Amazon.

While the German Miele brand bags are indeed amazingly built, I use the brand below to save money.

Substantially
cheaper and very well built. They do the job as one would expect.

Regarding Amex extended warranty, you may want to carefully read the terms and conditions.

IIRC refurbished purchases are not covered but I could be wrong.

Yup I checked. They will cover refurbs as long as there was a warranty on it. That deal of eBay has a 3 year warranty, 6 months through Dyson and 2.5 years through their outsourced partner.

My wife and I are pretty happy with our LG Kompressor canister. Downsides are a short cord and I don't really like the canister aspect, forces you to manage too much stuff at once (sucky-end, canister, and cord) but it does a good job.

We also got a $35 Eureka battery operated vacuum on Amazon for small jobs. Much quicker and easier to take out and suck something up real quick.

Thanks for the info, good to know.

Got the vacuum in yesterday. Brown box. You can definitely tell that it was used before. Small nicks on some of the plastic but other than that it was clean. Smaller than the DC14 I had a long time ago and much lighter, which is really nice. Performance wise, it was definitely worth the $200 I spent on it. My god the carpet in my room was dirtier than I ever thought. I almost filled half the container full of dust in one run. Blows that old Windtunnel I had out of the water.

We did some research last week and ordered this: http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-WindTun.../dp/B002HFA5F6

Just got it today. Assembly is much easier than the crappy vacuums we've had in the past. Haven't tried cleaning with it yet. Consumer Reports seemed to like it better than the Dyson for pet hair and the Amazon reviews for it and the non-Pet version are pretty good.

I highly recommend this vacuum, it's amazing in almost every conceivable way.

If you want something lightweight such as a cordless hand vac, I suggest you try Black & Decker CHV1510. It's considered the second best handheld vacuum after Dyson but much better for the price.
