I would think a non racist person would take great care not to say something racist. I guess that's the difference between you and everyone else, you think people shouldn't be judged by their actions.

we need to have an immigration system that works. unfortunately, the worst Congress in the history of this country has stopped all efforts to correct the current problems. the vast majority of illegal immigrants are not criminals, do not take money from the system and are an overall positive to our nation. we can't just ship them all off and screw up their lives and negatively affect our own at the same time. we need to have effective work visa programs that work and benefit everyone involved, American companies and first generation Americans. we need to end the war on drugs and focus on cutting off the foreign suppliers. there is no perfect solution and i don't profess to have them all, but calling the vast majority of illegal immigrants criminals, rapists and leeches and wanting to deport them all is wrong on all levels and un-American.

You have a point in that it's not helpful to label everyone guilty of any sort of racial animosity a racist, any more than it is to label everyone who's ever violated criminal law a criminal. Both are matters of degree.

However, it's not in dispute that there is significant racial resentment in this country given for example the civil rights dispute only a ~generation ago was resolved via government fiat when it clearly would've failed at the ballot.

People are quick to deny it exists, at least in themselves. But consider that a plurality of americans have no reservations voting for a party which still panders to those sentiments, to grasp how much it's still *tolerated*.

A rational/smart problem-solver would look at this and figure out solutions which resolve economic demand. A political opportunist would look at it, look at the level of white racial resentment, and blame the mexicans.
