I hate buying anyone flowers. They just die in a week. I prefer to buy something i can plant and they will grow. That gives me far more enjoyment.

Ordered my girl flowers a couple weeks ago. She'll get them at work today. As an added bonus, the person who normally works the lobby at her office has been out sick, so she has to work the front desk today. Wish I could see her face when she's surprised with the delivery .

I was with one of my business customers earlier today (small office environment), and regardless of the age of the women, they were all very definitely interested in the deliveries of flowers*. I would even bet that women who say "don't bother with Valentine's day, made up holiday, etc" would be equally thrilled to get something, and on the flip-side, they get steadily more moody that their friends are getting stuff and they aren't.

My wife only a few days ago said, "let's not bother with valentine's day", but sure enough, I received a card this morning.

* - not quite "on Christmas morning, like a kid who believes in Santa", but not far off.

Sorry guys, I didn't realize that it's ridiculous to buy a $20 bouquet. I guess my girlfriend should just suck it up and realize she isn't going to get anything from me at all.

Just because it's a made up holiday doesn't mean there's no point in giving. Especially if they don't really want anything, it'll be even better. You have no idea how much a small gift can make someone's day.
