So accept that the marketing was well done and that you are pretty much screwed into paying extra for dinners and flowers on this day.... or always lay ground rules about this day when you start dating someone new.
here is a pic of the flowers my wife received today.

i didn't wanna do roses because they are so normal and expected. she sure as shit didn't expect her flowers to look that shitty though.
i've contacted proflowers via customer support contact us on the site, and if i don't hear anything by the end of the work day i'm going to be calling them up when i get home to complain. that is unacceptable.
Its an ongoing joke in my family about my nephew and his dating timing. He always breaks up with them right before xmas and vday.
This. Valentine's day is fucking stupid.
A few of you guys are getting the idea, the others of you are completely whipped
My fiance doesn't like to make a big deal of it, so I'm going to bring home some Lou Malnati's tonight. We both like pizza.
Nah.
If you wanna have sex, you gotsta pay the piper.
Yay, happy commercialized holiday where men are expected to spend lots of money on their significant other or be considered horribly bad people.
God forbid we show that sort of appreciation on another random day instead.
And yes, i despise most holidays, but V-day more than most.

I've had similar experiences with 1-800-FLOWERS and with Teleflora; I'm convinced that they've both turned into shitty services that are perfectly willing to cut corners everywhere in order to make a penny. They have forgotten that it's all about the presentation, and that it doesn't matter for shit whether they offer you a refund because the moment's been ruined.
All those companies are is a national call center to contract local florists. If you want something nice, just call a local florist and pick it up. It will probably cost about the same amount.
1800? That's a buttload of flowers! My "local florist" was apparently over 100 miles away. They shipped vis UPS. This was 1800 flowers...
I bought my wife flowers last week simply because she was having a bad day (no it wasn't my fault). I don't need a special holiday to show her that I love and appreciate her. She also feels the same way.
So yeah, if your relationship's happiness revolves around what you got her for Valentines Day then yeah by all means get her something. I personally think that's just messed up though.
The thing to me about the whole made up holiday/consumerism bs argument is that when all her co-workers are getting something, and she's the only one who's not, there's GOT to be a small percentage of jealousy running through her brain. Women are wired that way. SO even though they say they don't buy into Valentine's day, it's always the thought and action that counts. Most men who don't buy into this and who are smart, would get their wife something anyways today, and just not address it as a Valentine's Day gift but some other made up day and would still score major points. Why go against it?
